Those are some interesting pictures. I don't know all of those people. I wish I didn't have other stuff to do that night, looks like everyone had a great time.

There is a manly version of croquet,

read the Jasper Fforde books, the Thursday Next series.
Not only are they brilliant and rib achingly funny, but they feature a world where croquet is a stadium sport, played in full body armour, with italianate garden death traps and lawyers on hand to sue (i don't actually know how to spell that word in the sense of of'i'm going to --- you for every penny etc.etc.) or send off as they can.

ok, so it doesn't sound that exciting, but believe me, they're the sort of books you can't read on public transport for fear of laughing so much that random strangers try to get you committed.

Plus it helped give rise to the real life sport of Extreme Croquet, basically where the ball goes, you go, through supermarkets, up the sides of mountains, accross roads(!)

so there's manliness...

As for dicussing football, lets not and say we did. For the most part I have very little interest in proffessional sports.

CMS: I now know your size. Seriously though I know a woman who is the same size and I never would have guessed. She dresses such that one would never notice.

M4P: I maybe wise beyond my chromosones, but not my years, wishing it were so. (Sigh) Woman you can be happy with what you don't have and should be happy with what you do, confidence and a brain. I keep running into these insecure, vacuous women with over the top breast jobs, big turn off.

Seryn: VPL, oh that, right, some people are self-conscious about that. Sweating your way out of your paste on bra, (Steady boys! Steady!), what can a gentleman say in regards to a powerful image that? I guess I'll have to go find a gentleman and ask him. Until I find one, I'll have to make do. My compliments Mam' and thank you for sharing. No smelling salts needed after that one. Cold showers maybe. A bra that you sweat off sounds like the perfect wardrobe for the sort of thing that Erica Jong wrote about in Fear of Flying back in the 70's.

Blackeyedgirl: Getting fitted for a bra, (Steady! Steady!) is a really good idea. All of the women I have known well enough to give a massage to have had tension right where their bra strap crossed their spine, every single one of them. Hey all good females should be rewarded! What to do about the bad ones though, hmm?

Orpheus: Who's your friend in the sash?

Whoa!...Flesh!

There was a SCA event where all the fighters played full contact quidicht in full armor. I hope I'm spelling it right. I never actually read Harry Potter.
One of Ed Harris' earliest movies Is George E Romero's Knight Riders where he has a traveling Rennaisance Faire the highlight of which is full contact jousting on motorcycles.

I'm going to have to admit my resounding idiocy and ask, SCA? and also

Huh? they played quidditch? isn't that played on brooms? er, how did they fly?

though jousting on motorbikes, sounds like my kinda spectacle, like to see them steer a bike in a frog-mouth though.

SCA, it's this hobby of mine that I can't seem to escape from. I originally brought it up because I mentioned that it might actually be a place where there are nice people to meet. SCA stands for Society of Creative Anachronism and there are branches in the UK and Europe. Here's the main website:
www.sca.org
If you google SCA you'll get a lot of hits. If you have any questions about it I'll be happy to answer them. I suspect that there are people here who are not so interested in it so I won't natter on unless asked.
No they weren't flying, and no there weren't brooms.
What's a frogmouth?

should have included picture first, sorry

Was a big ol' helmet bolted on to the harness (chesty bits)
Idea was the other person got more points for breaking their lance on your face (as far as I recall anyway) so having your helmet bolted on meant you didn't get yer head ripped off easier than a kid pulls petals off daisies.
