Seems like this is probably something that has already been covered, but...
What are your favorite FanFics?
I had never read a "FanFic" before, for Firefly or any other show, book, movie, etc. (Something about poor writing, and a tendency for the authors to write them for their own satiation of some sort of fantasy of their's, pushing characters into hard-to-believe situations without appropriate explanation or justification. In this sense, crummy fanfics are sort of like porn: there's an absent or poorly developed lead-in, followed by the "headlining event" (for a fanfic, maybe it's a highly anticipated kiss between characters that have been only coy in the presence of one another, or an odd pairing that would never occur between characters in their original incarnations), and just enough of an ending to quickly tie things up. This makes for a read that few other than the author can actually enjoy. Mainly it's the poor writing.)
But ScrewTheAlliance's "Kaylee's Lament" was a real turning point for me. There is excellent humor and the characters stay true, and are really dead-on in a "Joss-reincarnate" sort of way. It's original and intelligent, with elaborate story-telling and dialogue that blends seemlessly with that of Firefly. Granted, I haven't read all of the chapters (I'm trying to space it out, like I did with watching Firefly, to make it last longer), but I think this is a fair assessment.
So thank you, ScrewTheAlliance!
And to the rest of you, what are your fav's? ...And why?
