I think that's why they use goslings, they can't fly away yet.

Save the whale!

Inara: "Do aliens live among us?"
Kaylee: "Yes. One of them's a doctor."

Talk to me Seryn: Is this like a normal house door? Does the door open in or out? If it opens out can you see the hinges? You say you have the key and the lock turns. Is there more than one lock on the door? This is a lot like my day job, no not a burgular, no not tech support, no not locksmith. Don't ask.
Don't worry about John Malkovich's head right now, first things first.

ah, yes, obviously missed the bit about their being goslings - but the pecking-to-death (well, fingerlessness) question still stands

it's about two foot high and painted bright pink (though i swear i've never noticed it before)it should open outward, but the hinges are concealed. it has the same lock as all of the other cupboard doors, and the key goes in,turns and feels like its released the lock perfectly., theres no other locks. the storage cupboard door have either a key lock or a slide latch, and as it seems to be sticking from the top i'm tempted to think that some berk of a workman has fitted it with both and closed the latch before fitting the panel its in...

the same workmen who fitted an entire information desk that you can't actually get your knees under with no handles on cupboard doors, and no space for a computer or ticket machine.

One word: gloves.

Is it bad that I left this party to go watch The Train Job? You're all helping Seryn retrieve her orca, and I'm watching Mal kick whats-his-nuts into Serenity's right engine.

Now I feel bad.

Berk of a workman? You can explain that later. Let's try using that coat hanger I mentioned earlier. You only need a section of straight metal about 30cm long then bend the last 6 or 7cm at a right angle. That is your basic tool, you may have to modify it to suit. Slide the right angle between the frame and the door. Once the right angle is inside you can manuver the tool around, rotating it, sliding it back and forth, pushing it in and out and such. Manuver the tool around till you find the internal latch by feel and the try to manipulate the latch till the door releases. This may take a bit of patience, but it builds great character. Stick with it and you may just save the whale. After all that you can tell your mates that you broke into a secure locked installation and liberated a captive ceatean. If this get's you nowhere fast then by all means use the screwdriver.
