Orpheus: Empire of the Sun. That's right that was Christian Bale. Damn talk about starting big.
BLackeyedgirl: Equalibrium did make it to theaters, I saw on the big screen twice. It was carried by less than 50 theaters in the entire US though, and only for two weeks. I realy enjoyed Laurel Canyon for some really good reasons and even a few bad ones. Natascha McElhone does such a intense job of reminding me I'm male it's,...Unsettleing! I thought she was tough sexy in Ronin too, to bad the movie itself was only okay. The Machinist, a friend of mine told me Bale lost over 80 pounds for that role. Talk about dedication to the craft, because if that's true he obviously put it all back on and shaped it well.

Not the usual batch of degenerates.
So that makes us unusual degenerates?
OOOOOH! Another cool movie: Usual Suspects.

the machinist was absolutely sodding brilliant, so unsetttling, and you get to the end (complete with cramp from winceing every time he comes on the screen - he did actually loose over 80 pounds, you really can tell) and your totally gobsmacked, its one of those endings that just leaves you... well i can describe it, but only in random noises that i can't spell.
do you remember the ending of out of gas? when you realise that mals choosing serenity was a gut reaction, kind of destined to be, and a perfect resolution? well the end of the machinist has nothing like that, but it still leaves you with the tingling didgits and the sense of woah, but i just remember thinking, 'everything is going to be all right now' even though the shit appears to have hit the fan, you just now that the character's going to deal and get his good ending.
this is why I never attempt to write novels...
pass me a cup of that cocoa, I lost an orca whale today

I just made cocoa myself!
I was going to have peppermint tea, but when I went to the microwave there was this big basket full of hot chocolate packets and I couldn't resist. Though it's not nearly as nice as when I make it from scratch. Ghiradelli's sweet ground cocoa is the best thing ever!

Aww Orca. Lost as in missing or as in 'big ocean in the sky'? Either way, it's upsetting, here, have some cocoa, I put on extra marshmallows (they always melt too fast). I promise we will abstain from watching Free Willy (as if we were going to anyways).
Also I made chili last night,(chili today, hot tamale!) so get a bowl and some bread and eat up!
The Machinist was amazing, and the ending, well youa re so right, I didn't see it coming, but somehoe it was enough. I dunno, I'm good with words and this one left me speechless and making the noises I generally only make at the TV after watching Lost.

The end of the Machinist, I saw it coming from the point the clue was dropped.

lost as in i know exactly where he is but have no idea how to rescue him - I was putting him up on a high shelf along with some new friends (some whale's, a couple of dolphins and a hammerhead shark)when he fell down behind a partition that was hiding some water pipes - I didn't know that it wasn't covered)
The crazy thing is is that theres a little door in the base of the partiton - no one knows why its there, and we can find the keys that turn the lock, but it doesn't open, so he's trapped there, waiting for someone to work out how to open the mystery door and let him out.
By the way he's 12" long and made of plastic.
(jadehand -don't even think about it)
But loosing him was still traumatising.
