I can't remember if it was Kenneth Teran or Elvis Mitchell reviewing Batman Begins, (the latest installment in the Batman series a daunting task considering how lack luster the franchise has become,) said that Christian Bale has so much talent that he could play the back story to Mighty Mouse and still get a Oscar nomination for it. The terrifying thing is, he's not wrong. Batman Begins is the best ever, in part because of Bale's fine work.
Of course it doesn't hurt that chic's dig him.

Oh, definitely. Bale is hands-down the best Batman ever. And he's certainly the most convincing Bruce Wayne as well. He's always been a great actor. Even back in his early years in stuff like Empire of the Sun.

I'm not really into Christian Bale. Something about him bothers me but I can't quite put my finger on it.
But I did enjoy Batman Begins.
I thought it was funny that the batsignal began because he chained that guy to a big light. I was laughing so hard.

Equalibrium is a fantastic film, made in Germany a couple years ago on a small budget. Don't worry it's in English so you won't have to squint at subtitles. It stars Christian Bale. One of the best underrated actors working today. Bale plays a elite police enforcer in a world where emotions are illegal. This film is the finest example of science fiction used as social commentary I have seen since Fahrenheit 451. It is not a completely original work, watching it you will see elements of so many other movies and books, but that decreases it's message not a whit. It's one of those few films I think everyone should see once they consider themselves a adult. It's heavy, so not for the kids.

Sci-fi social commentary, fantastic! Heavy can be fun. Well, you know what I mean.
Tangentially, I once had a scifi/social commentary idea of there being this alien race that shows emotion visibly. like angry=turn red, sad=turn blue, etc. So your emotional state becomes your fashion statement. Seemed an excellent basis for making fun of oh so many things. But then I had no idea where to go with it and then I remembered I'm not a writer.
There was a call for poetry earlier, right? OK, there was a call for poetry warnings. The previous paragraph is as close as I get.

I'm glad to see it's not just the usual batch of degenerates around here (from the hidey). Nice to see fresh faces. I think the baggage free 4th floor will be opening tomorrow. So kids get ready to get sucked through the phone (someone found the dude that hooked up the matrix! score!)
Okay Equilibrium. Personally, for me, I think movie is a far greater social commentary than The Matrix (which was very heavy as well). Christian Bale is remarkable. I mean remarkable. If someone would have told me that the kid from Swing Kids and Newsies was gonna grow up to be this amazing as an actor I would have smacked them in the head, with a stick, a big stick. But he is.
Now most people are into Bale from Batman. I've been a Bale fan since the Disney days. I love American Psycho (I'm one of the few who really enjoy Bret Easton Ellis' work), The Machinist is AMAZING, but Equilibrium is hands down one of the best sci-fi future movies I have seen. Screw that one with crazy Cruise, this is the movie that should have made it to the theater.
It goes something like this: Post WW-III the government gives people the equivalent of the Pax from Serenity, but no one starts cannibalizing, nor giving up. Instead they drone about like worker bees in the hive. They have no emotions, there is no music, there is no literature or art or dance or anything. Why? these things breed passion, and passion is dangerous. Bale is an agent with the super special police, his job: find what are known as 'sense' offenders. That is people who have collections of items from the time before the drug (sort of an earth that was idea), cos these people stop taking the drug, and get all passionate and fight back and they know pleasure and pain. Bale's wife had been captured as a sense offender and burned (cos they burn 'em like withces), and he is left with 2 kids. Then his partner is a sense offender and kills himself, so he ends up with a new partner. The totally yummy Taye Diggs. Oh yeah, Taye Diggs and Christian Bale as futuristic cops. It is a yummy-fest. Emily Watson and Sean bean are also in it.
It's amazing the revelations that occur in this movie. I totally agree with ScorpionRegent on this one, this is a movie all adults should see, well the ones with the brains to understand it.
It's got so many elements from other similar movies, but you realize that this is the perfect synthesis of them (although there is no Heston running around screaming about the Soilent Green!). Although some parts are predicatable, its still an amazing movie, that is constantly on my 'you must see this' list.
