I am so with you. I already pledged on a different post that I would spend $200 on the DVDs (over a period of a few months). I don't know what I'll do with all of them, since all the friends that would be interested have already been converted and are buying it themselves, but I've got a few ideas. One thing I was thinking of was to send a few copies to the guys from my husband's unit that are in Iraq. (thankfully, my husband isn't over there right now...) They don't have much to do on their free time, and many of them brought personal DVD players. I figure a few copies of Serenity will get spread through there like wildfire. ;)

that's a terrific idea. i'd like to send a few there myself. where would i get addresses?
i think i'm going to actually buy a lot more than ten and just give to random friends and associates. i figure if the dvd revenue blows up, universal will be more inclined to finance a sequal, and fox might be persuaded to revisit the show. high hopes.

One. Honestly, it's all I need. I have long since given up the idea that I have to personally finance sequels.

i think i have, too. it's sad, but the more i think about the storyline of the film, the more i'm convinced that it's all over. but because i love the characters and firefly stories so much, i'm still gonna give a bunch away to friends just to expose them to something really cool. i don't have any illusions about that gesture going any further than that.

One, for myself to watch whenever I need to be reminded that not all films these days are stupid and rubbish.
I think I did all the converting I needed to when I took loads of people to see the film at the cinema. Hopefully a few of them will buy the DVD and then go on to spread the word about it to friends and family :)

Three; one for me, one for my stepson, and another for me (plan on wearin' out at least one disc).

I am buying just one copy of Serenity for myself.
I gifted about fifteen Firefly dvd sets over the past two years. My hope was to spur the recipients on to seeing the film when it came out. Some of them saw the film in the cinema and some did not.
Since I am grassroots guy (not Firefly crutch guy), those who received Firefly dvd sets from me can buy their own copy of Serenity.
Not the response you were expecting, huh?

Gotta agree with the responses so far. If the browncoat community account for a significant percentage of DVD sales, then the total sales will have been poor. All we can do is try to spread to word, not finance the franchise ourselves.
Having said that, I don't understand how some films have apparently become hits via word-of-mouth but Serenity (at the cinema) did not, given that most people who see the film end up (not surprisingly) enjoying it.

gifted 15 firefly dvd sets! that's very impressive. if i had that kind of flow i'd do that instead. i honestly feel some of the series episodes were far superior to the film.
what is a firefly crutch?
