I had two thoughts

1) Costumes --- We need someone to keep track of places where we can get costume items -- shirts, coats etc. I live in a Western state so some things will be available "off the peg" here.

2) Construction. To my mind we need 2 "sets" minimum. One is the cockpit because I dont see how we can sell the idea of the ship flying without it. The other is the rear loading ramp done in such a way as to be transportable. I'm assuming here that our first outing will be outside the ship in the main.

I did have an interesting idea. Near here there is a western "Ghost town" that gets used every halloween but I believe is empty the rest of the year. Maybe we could see about hiring it for filming?

I don't have time to read the full thread and comment on story ideas and such, but I just wanted to post my interest up. I write a lot in my spare time (nothing formal except for a 100% in creative writing GCSE :p), and I've done some random acting in my spare time (also nothing formal). I'll be involved in either of those ways, although I'm in the UK (England) so again, that could be a problem. What's the status on we Britts being involved in any way?

Where is this "Ghost Town"? i think that would be great for the outside scenes.... See if maybe we get it for free or at least a low enough number.

Agreed, a ghost town would be great for a shooting location. Is it located in desertland? If so, I think it could pass off as a boarder moon settlement with ease.

This is getting really exciting. It will be fun to get the writers together and start on an episode based on what resources we actually have.

I think the most important thing to figure out, though, is the characters. Pleeease, can we create a character that I can play? I'm a very good actress, and I'm willing to travel. I'm worth it.

Yeah, cheers for that. Its great that your putting a website together by the way, thanks.

Thanks, guys

Now, sets:

This 'ghost town' sounds like a great resource - and there's at least a good chance of getting some time in there for free for a project like a Firefly fanfilm.

A cockpit set is a must. The cargo bay would be great - but it's a little harder to put together.

Other sets: with a decent bluescreen and some clever lighting, you can pull off nearly anything. It's not the ideal solution - acting to nothing but blue is hard, and there's the added difficulties of keying, compositing, and modelling the environment, but for places otherwise impossible, it's a lifesaver. Good for set extensions too - cockpit windows, computer screens, hangar doors, and the like.

I think we should arrange a time in which all of the writers meet up in a chatroom (maybe the one on the yahoo group) and discuss the storyline \ plot elements, and exchange idea's.

Cargo bay is the absolutely hardest thing to do It has multiple levels and lots of contructional steelwork. We could maybe dress a "corner" of the bay and use shots taken from the series to establish the scene but the big bay is impossible.

The Ramp we need because that's the all important link between the "ship" and the location. We just need the ramp itself the area around it and a short coridor. We can put in the cargo bay and the rest of the ship with CGI

The ghost town is off Interstate 20 about 50 miles sout of Dallas. It's not in open country because it's basically a Halloween attraction. I don't have kids so I haven't been there when it was open, I passed it on the way to a jobsite a few years ago and thought it looked pretty neat. I will reseach it and other places. I believe there are a few western towns around here.

To my mind we need to get a large local group somewhere in the country to get involved with this. That would give us extras transport and crash space for out of town actors and technical people.

I think thats a great idea Browntrousers, we need to get the writers first. That means that we need to figure out how we going to go about writing this.

I was thinking that we get a bunch of writers together, then have one of them write the script, put it out to the other writers and the collaborate on changes, additions, and subtractions. I think that way we don't have five scripts to change, we have only one.

How does that sound?
