Sure, different mood (more comic book, less reality), but I still thought it was fun to re-visit the character after so long. And shutting down the Earth was a hoot!

The New Guy: Eliza Dushku, DJ qualls. Teen comedy, coming at the end of the most recent era of them and therefore overlooked. But its great hilarious and filled with fun cameos.
Grind: Adam Brody. 4 kids chasing a proskateboarding dream. Absolutly hilarious!
Van Wilder: not sure how this did in theaters, but i got it on DVD and couldnt beleive i had missed it!
DEBS: Jordana Brewster. Comes off total crap about 4 secret agents in training in tiny school girl uniforms, but is actually really campy and well done, also one of the best lesbian relationships portrayed in a movie.
The Island: I saw this is one of the 3 days it was in the theater and thought it was awesome. Visually pleaseing, good story, thought it got the shaft from the general public.
Skeleton Key: worth a look, not gonna say its the best, but i like the feel of it
And for one to avoid at all cost DO NOT SEE THIS!!!! Alone in the dark. Its crap total crap. and when i went to see the Cave some people behind me were like "hope this is better than alone in the dark" and I was like "OMG that movie was crap" and the people in front of me were like "alone in the dark? Yeah that sucked!"

Kudos for mentioning Once Upon a Time in Mexico. I thought Desperado sucked...pure action with no common sense. Johnny Depp MAKES THIS MOVIE. A must see for Depp fans.
Also, Iron Giant SHOULD be a classic and can be picked up for about $10 at Wal-Mart. Not many American animated classics like this one.
Unbreakable...a trilogy. Let's hope Needy is wrong about this one.
Speaking of Shymalan and unheard of flicks. EVERYONE CHECK OUT "WIDE AWAKE". Ignore the cheesy cover that makes it look like a comedy. It's Shymalan's first movie and it deals with a little boy who's grandpa dies and he goes on a mission to find out if God is REAL. Very touching and intelligent picture.

Some GREAT STUFF added to the list. I almost mentioned Dog Soldiers on my list. Classic low budget werewolf movie. AND COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT "Once Were Warriors"...AWESOME MOVIE...and "Amelie"...very funny and the actress is a doll!
BTW, Benny "the Jet" Urquidez, who played Felix La PuBelle is a world famous kickboxing champion. He's also John Cusack's trainer! Would explain why the fight scene was so good.

Ballistic was one of the most disappointing films I have ever seen. I was so psyched about it, and nothing. Even Ray Park (Darth Maul) couldn't make me like this movie.
HOWEVER, I here there is supposed to be an Iron Fist movie on the way with Ray Park as the title hero. A MUST SEE. Ray Park is the MAN!!!

And Six String Samurai IS on the level with Ho-Tep. Both of which I would rank with Kung Fu Hustle as far as pure fun!

Another samurai flick to check out. "Seven Samurai". Awesome movie that was remade as a little western called "The Magnificent Seven"! I founf this movie quite by accident by listening to the lyrics of a Barenaked Ladies song:
"Like (Akira) Kurosawa I make mad films
'kay I don't make films, but if I did they'd have a samurai".
His other movies like "Hidden Fortress" which Lucas claims as an inspiration for Star Wars I found lacking, but Seven Samurai is the bomb!

I forgot how surprised I was by the caliber of "Out of Sight". Probably my favorite Clooney film and I LOVED O Brother.
Dark City. Saw it in the theater and loved it and never watched it again. I think I'll have to buy this one. A definite forerunner to the Matrix.
DD Director's Cut... I HATED the theatrical version...but may have to try the Director's Cut. KEVIN SMITH should have directed. Too much hokey in the theatrical version.
Eternal Sunshine is a GREAT FILM. Some people have no taste or patience for a decent plot. :)
STATIC:
Lawerence Fishburn (Gina Torres/Zoe's husband) was AWESOME in Othello. I saw this well before the Matrix came out, so I was already a Fishburn fan. He's also cool in Assault on Precint 13... "Old man..."
Branagh's Shakespeare is a triumph...though I have yet to have the pateince to sit through Hamlet. :(

PITCH BLACK MADE ME A VIN DEISEL FAN FOR LIFE! I'll see anything he's in...am disappointed with most of it (though I liked XXX)...and still watch his movies.
Also check out Jason Statham in "The Transporter" and I'm a ROCK fan too. Don't hold that against me. He's like Schwartzenegger with acting talent. If you like the Rock..or even if you don't...check out his role in BE COOL. Big gay ROCK is hysterical.

You know, I ALMOST included The Warriors , but didn't, but yes, that is one of my favorite movies too! I don't know how many times in junior high we tried to act like the fight scene with the baseball bunch with the bat, but it was fun! I'd love to try to play the new Warriors video game that was just released! And they've just put out a new version of the movie on DVD where the director tweaked it a little bit.
I guess my problem with Escape from LA was that I really would classify Escape from New York as my all time favorite movie (I've seen it dozens of times, and even have the soundtrack), and then when LA finally came out, I just thought it was too hookie and rehashed the original premise. I can see how it was a fun movie, but I thought it lost the charm of the original. I'm a HUGE John Carpenter fan, and also love Price of Darkness and The Thing. Unfortunately, his latter movies just haven't been as good.

Being somewhat of a Cusack fan (except of course in a strictly heterosexual, speaking in a gruff voice and spitting a lot, way) I knew about him and Benny.
"Say Anything" is littered with kickboxing. Also in that or maybe another of his teen films (sorry, I don't take my obsessions anywhere near seriously enough), JC's in a school dining room and someone whacks him in the face with a tray. JC throws a very slick, and lightning fast, block.

Matewan- John Sayles' early film about a feud in a west virginia mining town. Gritty and real.. impeccably acted (early Chris Cooper and David Straithern) just an amazing little movie.
Ride With the Devil- great cast, and Ang Lee a director who seems to have a great talent for films about relationships... this one is set against the backdrop of the civil war on the Kansas and Missouri border.. where the civilians raided each others homes with brutality... also has a really wonderful soundtrack.

I really enjoyed reading everyone's choices here and was surprised at the number of times I went 'oh yeah I like that one' so to recap...
Ditto to:
Grosse Pointe Blank (funny and dark),
Snatch (brilliant - Ritchie at his best),
Pitch Black (new aliens and even Vin Diesel was good),
Unbreakable (love this and I know I'm only one of a few),
Dark City (love it love it love it - music, Kiefer Sutherland, big brains),
Equilibrium (really under-rated - love that last fight scene),
Last Boy Scout (brilliant dialogue - Shane Black at his best and yes, I know why Milo crossed the road!),
The Killer (my first ever HK film and still a big fave),
As Good as it Gets (I watch this every time it's on - don't like Jack but he really is good in this)
LA Confidential (spectacular story and gripping to the end - fantastic acting)
The Princess Bride (came to this late in its life - the most amazing sword fights and very clever dialogue again)
Leon - Please, please, please let's see the sequel to this. Natalie said she'd do it!!
Tremors - Love it - nothing bad can be said
Dave - very funny 'I caught a fish and it was this big'
Hudsucker Proxy - of all the films mentioned this is really one that you should all see - so beautifully shot and acted and you know...for kids
Some not mentioned but faves of mine:
The Frighteners - Early Peter Jackson - very funny and dark in spots - Michael J Fox (don't let that put you off)
Always - Richard Dreyfuss/Holly Hunter - very touching and funny. Wasn't this Audrey Hepburns last film?
Blazing Saddles - if you're fed up of being politically correct this is the one for you. The beans scene still makes me pee myself.
Sneakers - Brill cast - Sidney Poitier is a god. Another great soundtrack too.
I'm already picking out the ones I want to watch...

Also check out "Hard Boiled" the first movie I EVER saw that had gun fights in crowded places where both the good guys and bad guys were accidently shooting innocent bystanders...but who's really innocent anyway? :)
