Chewing causes the drug to be released into the blood stream through the mouth, making it potentially less irritable on the stomach. Apparently it would be chewed about 30 minutes before sex.
Wrigley claims "a method for treating erectile dysfunction in an individual comprising the steps of providing a chewing gum composition that includes a therapeutically effective amount of sildenafil citrate in the chewing gum composition".

Ha! I just read that this morning in Scientific American. Man, they can put anything in gum can't they? What happens if little kids get a hold of that stuff?

All I want to know is why the hell can't they put a safe and effective birth control drug in chewing gum? If men could get pregnant there would have been a breakthrough in birth control many decades ago.

I also find it interesting that there are still insurance companies who won't help pay for birth control, but do help pay for a Viagra prescription.
