I was shocked and angry that Serenity only stayed in my town 2 weeks! I only got to see it twice; I was planning on going twice more one weekend, but it disappeared on Thursday.
I'm trying hard to do my bit for "The Cause" by buying the DVDs, the movie Companion book, the series soundtrack, and pre-ordering the movie DVD.
While at Amazon, I saw a Serenity book authored by Joss. Turns out there will be an 80-page DarkHorse comic (graphic novel, for you purists) of what sounds like a totally new episode. DarkHorse does a marvelous job - the illustrations of Mal & Jayne are PERFECTly true to life. I went ahead and ordered it.
Don't make me feel like a sucker: Everybody get out there and buy the ruttin' thing! Let's all apply those cardiac infusers and cortical electrodes and get a pulse back in this thing!
If Jayne is a man-ape gone wrong, then I don't want to be right.

Only 35 mil!!!! I thought it would be more than that b/c I was going to see it again. I got hooked badly. I didn't know what the movie nor the series was until after the movie and within a week, a watched all 14 episodes on DVD!!!!

Yeah, but this is a corporation we're talking about.
There's no "too long" if there's money to be made.
As long as the Firefly DVD set is selling and intro'ing people to the 'verse, and when the movie DVD comes out (by the way Amazon has a Serenity+Firefly package dealio some o' y'all might want to jump on)...well, if it sells the way a lot of us think it will, a greenlight sometime in '06, production in '07 and a release in '08 isn't unreasonable.
I'm pragmatic to the point of cynical, and I've worked in "The Industry" for many years (which might be a reason for the cynical part) but I'm thinking that the movie will break even and ancillary sales (DVDs and anything else licensed by Uni like comics, soundtracks, games, whatever) will take it nicely over the top. And at least get them thinking about a sequel. If they're not already doing so.
Uni isn't likely to drop the ball on a mini-franchise. Not when there's cashy money to be found.
But it all remains to be seen.

And compared to the first "Saw" movie with little favor prior to the film ended up grossing over $18 Million in its first weekend alone, with $7895 per screen, at a production budget of $1,200,000 (that's right $1.2 Million). And I got my info from the-numbers.com so I ain't making this stuff up.
Saw II had better advertising (I can't think of a single ad for Serenity that I think would play particularly strongly to a non-fan, especially the TV spots which were HORRIBLE) and a better release date. Nothing that came out the same week as Serenity did well. You know, the truth is that Universal was too scared to put it out against Episode III, but if they had a lot more people probably would have gone to see it since they'd have been looking for a good sci-fi alternative when it became apparent just how bad Episode III was.
Here's hoping we see another movie, but I'm not counting on it.
