Doesn't have to break even at the box office to stay alive. Money talks...wherever it comes from. The problem is that if the box office isn't great, less money will be provided for sequels...

This looks to be the last week in our multiplex, this last week it's only been on at 1015pm, tonight I'm going w/best friend, my nephew, and his cousin. If theres any browncoats in the Seattle area it's the Auburn regal 17 across from the supermall. Then I'm going to have my nephew keep an eye on his local mom/pop theatre for the BDM to show up there, then we'll go again. I watched Lost last night but checked in on Veronica During commercials and happen to catch Joss' bit, FUNNY.

Stay crunchy, even in milk. Bwahhaahaahaa I love that guy.

In some ways KT, I'm relieved this is the last showing- I'll be able to see Harry Potter without feeling guilty.

Tim and I have only seen Serenity since it came out - there are a few flicks we'd like to see but everytime we've started out we look at each other and go - we would rather feed Serenity's bottomline than someone elses......

Heh Maybe the $2 Sedgefield cinema will pick it up! Best of both worlds then - as they have the best popcorn!

Latest rumours point to a February release in the UK, which I'd imagine will be fairly similar across Region 2. Shame they'll miss the Xmas rush, but it might help sales since I don't fancy Serenity's DVD chances up against Star Wars: Episode III for people who didn't see the movie in the cinema and know how good our film is. February might be a nice quiet slot, the big Xmas movies won't be out on DVD yet so Serenity might get some big sales.

Greensboro Represent!

It's a shame I'm broke and this is last minute. Might could have staged some sort of vanguard rush. Sigh.

Wow. I used to live in GSO--and hope to never go back. Bad times, but good people. Wish it were still playing up here in Virginie.

Me too.

Here is what I am going to do:

1. I'm going to keep on buying on-line tickets.
Hey, I'm saving all this money not buying
popcorn and gasoline.

Serenity is still playing in the US even some
first run theaters:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/cinemashowtimes?location=map

Earlier today, I bought a ticket for tomorrow
at a theater in another state:

Regal Hollywood 24 @ North I-85
3265 NE Expressway Access Rd
Chamblee, GA 30341

2. Do some Christmas ordering and purchasing.
I have to find out if they want VHS, Dvd-Wide
screen or Dvd full screen. And as long as I'm
giving that, I just know they will want other Serenity stuff too like the novel or the comics or Official Visual Companion. The Books-A
-Million near me still have some Serenity The Official Movie Magazine (blue cover).

3. I'll keep checking the theaters, maybe
some theater owners will realize that we
were still going to see the movie.

4. Since I am now going to have an extra 4
hours on Saturday and Sunday, (1 hour 58 minutes + 1 hour drive 1 way), I'll be trying to
think of other Serenity things to do. I'll
have more time to read all this on-line stuff.

5. I'm going to watch Firefly on the Sci-Fi
channel.

You could go to Raleigh. It's playing at the Carmike 14 on Blue Ridge Rd. It looks like it'll be playing there all next week. Hey, it's only $1.50 but it has good company like "March of the Penguins.".

If Joss couldn't do it and Joss has say Serenity II will probably be lighter in tone than I, I vote for some of the directors of the most humorous episodes like:

Vondie Curtis-Hall (episode 1.07 "Our Mrs. Reynolds")

Vern Gillum (episode 1.05 "Shindig") (episode 1.12 "Trash")

Marita Grabiak (episode 1.08 "Jaynestown")

Of course the most logical person would be
Tim Minear (episode 1.04 "Bushwhacked") (episode 1.13 "Message, The")

However, my favorite person to co-write and possible direct would be to get Ben Edlund to help write the movie. He did a good job in writing (episode 1.08 "Jaynestown"), (episode 1.12 "Trash") for the show and of course he was one of the producers for the show. Of course Ben did a great job with "The Tick" character which he made into comic book, TV cartoon and TV live action (you know I think he would make a good fit with Pixar). Ben just has a great sense of humor and I think that is what needs to be emphasized in Serenity II.

I think getting an outside director might be problematic unless the director was a good fan of the series. I think only potential directors who consider who

1) have seen both the entire series and the movie
2) have a record of movies that contain action AND comedy
3) consider themselves fans of Firefly

should be interviewed.

Otherwise we'll get the result that happened in the Star Trek movies where costumes and tone shift radically when new directors where brought in. That could be explained pretty easy in the Star Trek universe (after all the Federation like the Alliance is rich) but not as easily in the Firefly 'verse.

Let's say the DVD's sell like crazy and Serenity makes it PAST $80 million faster than expected. Joss has Wonder Woman, that other horror script he just completed, and THEN another Firefly movie? How long do you think that would take? How hard will it be to get the cast together at the same time? And if it takes a long time to get everything going what kind of reception will it get when it's done? There is such as a thing as too long between movies.

Either someone else will have to direct it of Joss's choosing (I doubt it would take him long to write a script if it's not pretty much written already) or Wonder Woman will take a back seat. Now which of those two do you think Universal will go for?
