What a bunch of bull. Even now, there won't be a sequel, not a chance. The only people who saw this movie were the fans + change, and that's not enough. I've heard the stories, all the damn stories about how people walked into a movie theater and saw 50 people who, they say, are first timers, and really enjoyed the movie. How the hell do they know what other people are thinking... 50 people especially. But look at the numbers: $24 Million, and not even $40 Million worldwide. And they say there will be a sequel, or a tv series, or whatever the hell people think is able to be produced after a movie just bombed at the box office. Look at "Saw II", "Saw II" cost $4 Million to make and has already grossed $30 Million in the US alone. Now that's what it takes to get a sequel going, a strong opening. Not some sad $10 Million in the first weekend. And they say, well compared to the per-theater gross, it did rather well, but not really, not at all. "Serenity" earned about $4160 per screen, and all that after "lots" of attention, or somewhat too little I say. And compared to the first "Saw" movie with little favor prior to the film ended up grossing over $18 Million in its first weekend alone, with $7895 per screen, at a production budget of $1,200,000 (that's right $1.2 Million). And I got my info from the-numbers.com so I ain't making this stuff up.

You dont NEED a huge budget to make a great movie. I would even go as far as to say the story of alot of the episodes of Firefly were just as if not more solid than the BDM. I would be happy with a movie with the budget of the Serenity TV episode(s).

I think that you are wrong. There is still a possiblity for a sequel. Yes, Saw I and Saw II did rather well. But, there are other movies that get a sequel and do not bring in as much money as those movies. IOW, Saw II did exceptional well.

Moreover, there are movies that do rather well on dvd and thus become a hit. So although there is less of a chance for a sequel than Saw II, there is still a chance.

Remember, Serenity is already #16 on amazon.com. It is ahead of some pretty successful movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, War of the Worlds, and Fantastic 4. Also, all of these films will be released before Serenity. So, I think that there is still hope.

Since you feel the need to repeat yourself, let me just say Rush 2 sold 3 mill dvds and there were talks of making a Rush Hour 3.

Who the h-- bought that movie. I am sorry, but I just can't get over that one.

Seriously. We got a movie which should have never happened. The series LOST money, as it was a CANCELLED show. How long did it take STAR TREK to go from cancellation to big screen? 3 years? Not so much. And it ONLY became a franchise because of the fan base supporting it through fandom. Sure syndication helped bring new fans, but nowadays, we have to be proactive due to all the entertainment options available. We have to get DVD sets of Firefly into the hands of future fans, in lieu of syndication, to get the same results, and I'd say we are off to a much better start than Trek ever was.

Frankly, if someone is predicting that a $39 million dollar movie will cost $60 million to do a sequel, then I tend to think that there is an intent to do an even BETTER movie (being the out-of-the-box optimist I am).

Frankly, SAW I & II can kiss our collective Browncoat asses. It is shit that is shit out to the shit-eating masses who have been trained to think that shit is worth consuming. They don't know any better because Hollywood doesn't offer any better. And generally Hollywood won't offer any better because shit is cheap and shit is in demand because the last 30 years has raised a culture of shit-eaters on the shit they've told us isn't shit (ever watch the award shows? please...).

Why don't you quit bitching, and instead of being part of your (perceived) problem, you get off your ass and be part of the solution?
