in case anyone cares, here's some helpful advice from your friendly neighborhood Nightmarcher...

i was putting together phase 1 of my crazy ass computer cooling system today. two 120mm fans in the front and a 92 on the side for intake, another 120mm on the top and a bay cooler for exhaust. yeah, i know that's kind of an overkill, but NOBODY ASKED YOUR OPINION! hehe. anyways, after getting my system setup in my modded case, i tried to fire the beast up and... KAPUT! nothing, not a damn thing. spent two hours figuring out what the hell was going on. finally remembered that my ram slots are twitchy as hell. so i adjusted my ram sticks around, almost breaking my graphics card in the process. god damn agp locks!! so then i finally got it started, ran good and all, but it won't run like a champ until phase 2 and 3 starts (more to come on that later). messing around for a few minutes, making sure i didn't fry anything in the process, i roll my chair towards the desk and KABOOM!!!! one of the wheel/legs of my chair hits the blades on one of my front 120mm fans. the ensuing shrapnel managed to find its way into the back of my leg. yes, it did bleed a lot! but am i concerned with that?? nope. all i can think about is my precious fan. i go to check it, and i remember that the only light is coming from a lamp across the room, and i can't see a frickin thing. yeah, that stopped me! like the severely mentally unstable person i am, i stick my fingers in the fan to check if it's still running. and guess what? YES, it was, and all that my fingers did for it was rip off the remaining 4 blades, and part of my finger with it. totally over exaggerated of course. more like a deep cut which bled profusely and hurt like hell. bye bye beautiful fan.

what's the moral of the story here kiddies?? well, it's a two parter. first of all:

NEVER STICK YOUR FINGERS INTO A MOVING FAN!!

secondly and most importantly:

ALWAYS INSTALL FANGUARDS ON YOUR FANS!!

it will keep you and your computer happy. also, you won't loose any digits and blood in the process. that's my rant for the night. hope you guys have a blast making fun of me. latahz-

My god man, I didn't know case modding could be so hazardous a hobby. Come to think of it, I didn't know they even made fans without fan guards...

Because only communities of geeks can prevent cooling fan incidents.

Did I count right and you've got 4 fans? Well, three now. I just ordered a custom case with 5 and our other custom machine has 6. Why stop at 4? Now that you have to replace at least one, why not refit for 6?

Sorry too, about your agp locks.
