I tried very hard to catch the words on my last couple viewings. Here's my best take:

Fruity Oaty Bars,
Make a man out of a mouse.
Fruity Oaty Bars,
Make you bust out of your blouse.
Eat them all the time,
They will blow your mind...

Same idea, of course, and the sound is going sort of funny and distorted at that point. I think it's a little clearer when Mr. Universe replays it.

Now, can anybody explain why the words NOT MANDATORY appear on the screen behind the animated characters? Bad translation from Chinese, maybe? Sort of an "all your base" thing?

I figured it was some sort of hint that Alliance TV is very overtly authoritarian and they'd tell you at every step whether what they were talking about was required of all citizens or not. NOT MANDATORY suggested to me that citizens are not required by law to buy Fruity Oaty Bars, so the company that makes them clearly isn't bribing the right people.

See, and I was thinking that it was a product disclaimer -not mandatory- that you eat enough of them to induce the psychosis suggested above. I like your take. They are not a Blue Sun item. Not available at WallMart, either I hope.

hee hee

I did have one other interpretation - the words NOT MANDATORY appear, IIRC, for the "bust out of your blouse" bit where the woman eats a FOB and has an octopus hop out of her rapidly-expanding cleavage. Maybe the words mean something like the "Results Not Typical" micro-disclaimer you get with the ads for diet pills here in real life.

(on edit: I don't know if disclaimers like that exist in all countries here on earth-that-was. I live in the USA, which I hear is very similar to Real Life.)

"I may have to drill a hole in my head to get it out."

...
-------------------------------------------------

Sorry to butt into the middle of this aging thread but... what you are "suggesting" is called "trephining," and I guarantee you it has been practiced by our cavedwelling troglodytish forebears for some... 10,000 years...

As soon as I heard the jingle for "Fruity Oaty Bars"... I knew why trephining was invented... I DEFinitely can't get it out of MY (untrephined) head

HOHOHO

I don't wanna tattoo but, maybe, I could get trephined so that "my friends won't think I'm a stupid, inbred stack of meat"

"and on the OB, someone posted a pic of the fruity oaty bar t-shirt, maybe if you find one, you will lift the burden of the [*tune being stuck in your head* (there's a word for that, not "earbug" but something similar I think)] from your brain."

It's a German word, namely "Ohrwurm," meaning "Ear Worm," which is a word/phrase I've done Everything in My Power to insinuate into the English Language... I mean, as there's no freakkin' word in That English Language that quite manages to convey what ..."ohrwurm" manages to do...

So, if someone says, "Ohrwurm" to you, or near you, or in earshot of you... then... well... 'My work here is done" :-):-):-)

HAHAHA,

HOHOHO

Eat Fruity Oaty Bars® "or your friends will think you're a stupid, inbred piece of meat"

Oh yes, please keep bringing back the ancient and insidious thread!
I have a special fondness for this thread, and am working on designs of a Fruity Oaty nature that will soon become reality, if I can only execute my evil plan to enliven them.

Was that Frankenstienish enough? Bwah ha haaaaaaa.

Shiny Trees! Yavanna made Shiny Trees!
