It has got to be said. The movie just paled in comparison to the series. I brought different groups of friends to see it several times out of loyalty and everyone agreed it was good but certainly not great-i was teased for praising it so heartily i tell ya. I mean c'mon how cringe worthy was the line 'If I truly wanted somebody ain't nothing in the 'verse that would stop me from going to her' the 4 times i saw the movie i kept wishing fervently that the line would not be uttered but oh ick it was all 4 times. The bit about Miranda whoa phenomenal the populace that was calmed to death YOWSERS that is some chilling stuff. I only hope that Firefly comes back as a series and the whole Serenity movie thing can be passed off as a terrible dream that River had

Maybe i would think they did a good jobif only the bar wasn't set so high by the series. but think about Our Own Mrs. Reynolds' and 'Out of Gas' the series was just so superior. THe action of the 'Train Job' my heart aches to think that we probably won't ever see genius like that at work again. Gorramit!
oh and i completely stand by my ick comment

I had just seen THE LONGEST YARD the night before I dragged hubby to opening day.
Compared to that hack remake, Serenity was the best movie ever to have been made in the history of films. Having watched the series on VHS until the tape broke (I had recorded it when it first aired), I was quite happy with Serenity.
****SPOILER ALERT****
Other than wanting to scream "YOU KILLED WASH? YOU BASTARD!" it was a fantastic experience.

"Funny and sexy. You have no idea. And you never will."

Yo, G, the truth is that the movie had NO chance to tell a small character-driven tale like they could in the series...and unlike other of Joss' series, it did not have time to change drastically, so we get virtually no major change in character for almost 13 hours, then a heck of a lot of change in just two!! It's a complete gear-switch from series to flick, and many couldn't keep up, or didn't want to.
Quality- wise, yeah, they explored a lot more on the show than the movie.
But the movie was a helluva two hour last ep!!!

Wow, I can't understand calling 'Serenity' pale!
I was on the edge of my seat every second,
I could think of nothing else for days later,
and I was still finding it fascinating on the 7th viewing!
Nothing pale about it.
It is true that TV gives you plenty of time to have a nice cosy dinner,
telling jokes around the table,
enjoying the character's lives....
and a movie has to keep things moving, relentlessly...
but personally I don't think the change of medium is a bad thing,
I still hope to find a much bigger audience
(through DVD sales & rentals)
But then, I enjoy the comic books too.

Well I've only seen Serenity five times and it was good each time. Compared to the Firefly series it is "weak". Virtually everyone that watches a few episodes becomes hooked. Many people that saw the movie (fan or newbie) came away disappointed. So I'd say if 99% of everyone loves Firefly but only 80% to 90% really like Serenity then it's a no brainer... the movie wasn't as good as the series.
