A true hero in the civil rights movement. This woman's courage to face arrest for equality helped to spark a revolution that awakened America from judging someone on the basis of their skin color. She will go down in history as an individual that helped change the world for the better. This woman's courage changed the course of history. May she rest in peace.

Yes, a truly beautiful woman has passed.

Rosa Parks defined an era in American history. She never intended to be a hero, and yet somehow that's how she ended up.
A courageous woman has left a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Yes but many of the gains of the Civil Rights
movement have been eroded ever since the
criminal Reaganites took over. That eroding
continued with Clinton and Bush. For the record
Bill Clinton was Gov of Arkansas for 12 years
with 2 years out of office in the early years
then he got back in. He gained a reputation for
being able to massage the State Legislature into
doing what he wanted. When Bill Clinton took
over Arkansas there was no Civil Rights Statute.
Over a decade later when he left for the White
House there was still NO Civil Rights Statute
in Arkansas. So all his two-faced posing with
Afro-Americans and using Rosa Parks during a
State of the Union address was just that empty
b.s.!!

Howard, I don't agree with everything in your post, but I'll give you credit as a liberal who is at least not hypocritical on the issue of Slick Willy. Unlike most liberals.

Rosa Parks deserves the honor of not having some absurd Left wing myrmidon hijack a thread meant to praise her courage. Thanks Rosa. As a son of the South, it's hard for me to comprehend the world has changed for the better in such a short time.

There is so much wrong in that one sentence that I struggle at where to begin. Reagan was a great American, and was awsome for this country. Only those who wish to perpetuate the womb to tomb Social state which punishes the achievers and rewards the lazy would come up w/ such a mindless and devisive charge.

Damn right, but the remark about Clinton is dead on!

Okay, okay, okay!
Let's drop the thread-hijacking right now! No more grinding political axes -- and that includes "balancing the books" when someone else does. If someone insists on being a political troll on this thread, I recommend just ignoring them, and returning to subject.
Subject: Rosa Parks.
I'm half of a salt-and-pepper marriage; My wife has told me stories of a cross-country road trip she took as a small child; being raised in California, she had no experience at Jim Crow law, and being naturally defiant, she deliberately took a drink from the wrong fountain in Mississippi! Her mother nearly had a heart attack. That's the world as it was.
Some have criticized Rosa Parks for having defied the law on purpose because local civil rights forces needed a test case. I'm not one of them. It takes courage to put your freedom and physical safety on the line, even if you've figured the odds beforehand. It would have been easy enough for a cop to get violent towards a small black woman who was breaking race law.
Good bye Rosa, and Godspeed.

So your definition of a "Great American"
is a moron puppet who was the window dressing
for an administration that did the folloiwng:
1. Support Apartheid South Africa...so much
for your empty two faced words for Rosa
Parks. Reagan and his cronies armed and
supported the racist regime in South
Africa.
2. The Reagan admin was responsible for the
single most extensive campaign of
international terrorism the world has ever
seen. From the death squad murder of at
least 300,000 innocent people in Central
America to arming and financing the Islamic
fundamentalist to wage war in Afghanistan
among them Osama Bin Laden.
3. To supplying Saddam Hussein with chemical
weapons and siding with Saddam in the Iran-
Iraq war.
4. To arming and assisting Suharto in Indonesia
and extending the occupation and genocide
in East Timor.
plus so MUCH MORE!!
You people are the tasteless ones for taking
Rosa Park's name in vein while glorifying a
President who rolled back Civil Rights gains
and supported the racialist regime in South
Africa.

THIS is what this thread should have been about. Rosa Parks, an American that-regardless of political motivation- changed our country in ways that historians will analyze for centuries to come.
How the holy living fuck did this thread get hijacked to "blame Clinton," "Reagan was the greatest," Reagan was the crappiest," etc.? Show some respect for Ms. Parks, and get this thread back to where it belongs: Honoring the dead who made a lasting contribution to America.
Godspeed, Rosa Parks- take any seat in Heaven you want.
