Actually, I mis-typed. I meant to say more would die if we pulled out. I need to get more sleep, or less Scotch, or something.

In a perverse way, it would be interesting to just leave and let the Iraqis settle it, except as we were going out the front door, Iran would be coming in the back. Anybody got a force-field we can borrow?

On the other hand, we've only been working on democratizing Iraq for a bit over two years. I know in this age of instant everything that seems forever, but I don't think it unreasonable to expect such a change to take quite a while.

Geezer- What makes you think we're doing anything to keep Iran out NOW? We're mostly targeting Sunnis. The Shias are being encouraged to take over, and it's they who have ties with Iran, not the Sunnis.

OTOH, if we pulled out tomorrow, then the Shias would have to deal with the Sunni minority on a more equal footing and might reach a compromise that everyone could live with. It's impossible to have realistic negotiations between three parties when there is a fourth party- an 800 lb gorilla- in the room.

Clearly, you need more sleep. Personally, I would NEVER advocate less Scotch!
