Dunno about other countries overseas, but Israel is still on track with Serenity kicking into cinemas on November 10th.
Worth noting is that in the annual Middle East Technology, Science Fiction & Fantasy convention (Icon 2005) that took place last week, was a special screening of Serenity during the opening day (I was there obviously), which had sold out 3 WEEKS IN ADVANCE & had lines waiting nontheless for tickets AND demanding an additional screening.
And, worth mentioning, the fan base here is real SMALL... so these were NOT Browncoats lining up like mad for tickets... :)

Needless to say, over here, the cinemas (and crowds and critics) consider a movie to be REALLY worth it when something like that happens as its very rare.

Personally, can't wait to watch it again come november 10th...

Man, I have never been this obessive about BO numbers before. God, I want this film to succeed. I want a sequel at the very least. Being a Browncoat sometimes makes me feel empowered and pathetic at the same time. I wanna keep this ship flying. Why o Why does have to be this hard?

Thanks for letting me vent.

regarding france, i remember coming across a thread on the imdb board, where the paris numbers were up and not too hopeful looking, opening at 6. again, this was only paris. don't know about the whole of france. by the way, doesn't france have a large, whedon fan base, 'cuz i remember coming across some website by some french girl (something to the effect of "to joss") where she's basically begging him for a job, haha, being an aspiring filmmaker, and even having clips from some buffy-inspired fight scene that she did. anyway, fingers crossed for the foreign market.

Not that most people would be interested, but I know that 'Serenity' is opening in Norway Dec 2.

Firefly didn't even air here...

This just in from Whedonesque: Some Browncoats over in Germany got in contact with the local UIP office (international distributor) and received *repeated* assurances that Serenity will *not* go direct to DVD and will *not* be a limited release. It's still going to hit German theaters November 24.

Germany's a big market, so this is good news for us. Hopefully the film will do well there--I'm sure our German Browncoats are doing all they can to *make* it a success.

Hopefully this a sign that the trend towards direct-to-DVD release is still limited to a few unfortunate countries rather than a broader trend.

Don't panic too much if some countries don't show it. They can't be expected to show every American film as well as films in their native languages. I bet this happens to most films unless they are massive blockbusters.

yeah, i also have a friend in china (teaching english), and he says he already owns a copy of the bdm on dvd. sucks that bootleggers are taking revenue away from universal (ergo, less chances for a sequel).
