As I painstakinly watch each episode, I say painstakingly because with each episode I know that brings me closer to the end of the series.. which I don't want to end of couse. But each episode only seems to get better.. this world.. this 'verse that Joss and this cast created.

I won't go on about how excellent this particular episode is.. but one thing that I was a little disappointed in is this: Joss does such a great job of taking everything one would expect (especially in the realm of Sci-fi) and going the totally opposite direction.. but a direction that makes perfect sense.. not a different direction just for the sake of doing something different. Thus I was really suprised about the whole "computer voice" thing of Serenity in this episode. You know, the whole female voice thing "Life support will fail in 10 minutes", etc. I don't ever remember serenity haveing a "voice" or a computer that can do anything other than flash a few warning lights and make some siren screems and such. Since when do we have a talking-your-door-is-ajar computer? I thought that was the one cheesy thing among an otherwise excellent episode. I believe this episode was written by Tim and not Joss.. but still. And also.. I do realize it was probably done just to make you aware of the impending doom and that time is running out.. But I think that Mal's performance more than shows that he is running out of air, blood, and time. I don't think the voice was necissary and it was totally contrary to a big element of what makes the show so great which is doing the unexpected, and making you realize that is what it would probably really be like.

Oh.. and sorry if this has already been talked about to death long ago..

First, I dig the name, Smaug. Love any/all Tolkien references.

Second, I happen like the whole duel voice thing, with both English and Chinese warnings. Curious note, neither (or is it the same person?) of the voices are credited. We don't know whose voice we're hearing, so it must be the 10th character. Serenity speaks, and she's true to her maker.

OoG is a most beautiful ep.
