Say, Rat, did you have to win that race with Safe THAT badly? You COULD have braked a bit more, you know, and not all at the last second! Oh, well, let's see how big a dent we made in the side of the Arkham.

Rat, hand me the sticky!

* TheRealMe, Rat, and Jake7 are floating in space suits outside the Arkham’s airlock. Rat complies. TheRealMe squirts the transparent gel on the metal hull, around the locking mechanism. He waits. *

Dammit, Rat, nothing is happening! What is this stuff? Toothpaste?

* TheRealMe turns to notice Rat hightailing it back to the General Lee. TheRealMe and Jake7 glance at each other, then follow as fast as their suit jets permit. They barely make it to the Lee’s airlock when an explosion (silently) rocks the Arkham, opening a significant breach in its hull. *

Well, Rat, I suppose that is one way to get in, but really, you should consider…

* Huge tentacles flow out of the hole in the Arkham’s hull, completely envelop the Lee, and drag the shuttle inside. The wound in the Arkham then heals over with startling speed. *

On board the General Grant;

Jack's mouth gapes open. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??"

Safe pulls back on the controls and aborts docking procedure. "If it's ok with the rest of you, I don't think docking is a good course of action."

Safe; "I think we'll take a cruise around and see what's what. Does this boat come equiped with any sort of scanner?"

Safe pulls the Grant into an orbit of the Arkham, Jack flips on the exterior flood lights.

Serenity; "What exactly are we looking for?"

Safe; "A backdoor.."

* The crewmembers of the General Lee gaze out the shuttle’s windows. *

TheRealMe: Are you seeing what I’m seeing?

Jake7: That depends on what you’re seeing.

TheRealMe: Rat?

Rat: You first!

TheRealMe: Uh… Well… To me, it sort of has the vague appearance, perhaps, of….

Zoe-clones, in chorus: It’s Whitefall, Sir.

TheRealMe: But that’s impossible!

* The Zoe-clones glance at one another, and shrug. *

Needleseye: Maybe it’s a dream or hallucination?

TheRealMe, rubbing his chin in thought: Maybe, but…

* By this time, Rat has opened the shuttle’s airlock. He steps outside and inhales deeply. *

Rat: Good! There’s air! And no tentacles!

* TheRealMe pulls a tracking device from his belt. *

TheRealMe: Well, I’m still getting a reading from Emma’s distress beacon. Let’s suit up and go check it out. You know, this might not be so bad as I feared. With the movie Doom coming out soon, I half expected to be walking down corridor after corridor of the Arkham with only a gun’s eye view, blasting ugly monsters left and right.

* Nugget the Meteor Troll howls. *

TheRealMe: Uh, no offense, Nugget. Well, I do wonder if everyone in the other shuttles will come to Whitefall, or if they will each track Emma’s beacon into a different reality. Hmmmm….

* The team gears up with whatever weapons and supplies they plan to carry, and departs the Lee on foot. Rat locks up behind them, then shrinks the shuttle and puts it in his pocket. *

Jake7: I think Patience’s town is that way.

River-clone jumps into the co-pilot’s seat of the General Grant. Her face shows great concentration while her hands dart in a blur across the console’s control panel. After a moment, she sits up straight, an excited expression on her face.

River-clone: “Found it!”

Serenity: “Found what?”

River-clone: “A way in. Back door. If you have the key. But I do! Mathematics! Math is the key to the Universe!” River-clone then stares at a random bulkhead, hums a happy tune, and plays with her hair.

On River-clone’s screen is indicated the Arkham’s hanger bay doors. The girl has already entered a complex input code that is causing them to swing open.

River-clone: "It's obvious, though. Obvious way in. Probably a trap. So maybe it's not a back door. Maybe it's a front door, instead."

Soul, Jazaf, Static, and Jayne-clone2 are all crammed into the port shuttle belonging to Destiny's Shadow. With the head of Succatash connected to the piloting controls, the shuttle has a relatively calm flight until they reach the Arkham. The shuttle swings around to the far side, and Jazaf spies a hatch. 'Tash carefully maneuvers the shuttle into place and with a hiss the airlock seals.

"Well, let's go," Soul says.

Before anyone can move, however, there is a squealing of metal, and something that looks like tentacles covers the front viewscreen.

"What the hell is it doing?" Jazaf asks.

Calmy, Static replies. "It's pulling us inside."

For a moment, the shuttle shakes violently, throwing it's passenger's around. Then, there is silence, as a faint red light shines through the viewscreen.

"Um...where in the good gorram are we?" Jayne-clone2 asks.

Beside him, Soul checks the panel next to the door. Confirming that the outside air is breathable, he hits the control and opens the door. They all step outside and into...

"I thought we were pulled into a ship," Jazaf says. "How did we get here?"

Soul looks out across a vast black field towards the far horizon where a red sun is slowly setting, and a gleaming black tower pierces the sky.

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore," Soul says.

"No, we're not," Static says, his eyes narrowing as he stares at the tower in the distance.
