Of course, I know Mr. Whedon will come up with lots of original stuff for the soundtrack but (along the lines of the "What made you think of Firefly today" thread) these are the songs and groups that remind me of Firefly.

Take Me by Edward McCain
Standing Knee Deep in A River & Last Night I Dreamed of Loving You by Kathy Mattea
Your Life is Now by John Mellencamp
Lie to Me by Chris Isaak (well, really, anything by Chris Isaak would work!)

Now, my first love is really hard, head banging Rock and Roll but that really doesn't fit Firefly so much. (If it did, I'm thinking "Save Yourself" by Stabbing Westward or "Rocket Science" by The Pimps.)

Ah well, I love soundtracks (esp. Buffy's) because I discover new favorites that way all the time, most recently Evanescence off Dare Devil. Perhaps some of you can introduce me to some more shiny, shindigable music...hmmm?

I am a big soundtrack fan as well, though I gear more towards score music. If there is to be a Firefly movie, I would love to see Basil Poledouris score the film (he did Quigley Down Under, Conan the Barbarian, Hunt for Red October--all very memorable).

I can't think of any Firefly-ish songs right now. It's a good question though. I'll have to chew on it.

Hm... I finally decided on joining long after the show was canceled...

I personally think that whoever does the show itself would be great for coming back for a movie if it happens, but Christophe Beck and Robert Duncan both were okay. Actually CB was great, and he's shown a pretty good range from things like Buffy to Bring it On. Then what little I've heard of Douglas Romayne...

As for stuff that reminds me of Firefly, I think there's been thoughts like that occuring ever since I heard she was going to be a guest on the show, for one of the (still unaired) episodes.

No pop soundtrack! Only score music. By Greg Edmundson if possible. If not, then maybe Christophe Beck, Robert J. Kral, Marco Belltrami, Danny Elfman, or John Williams.

No danny elfman please. He's great, but pretty quirky and not always 100% appropriate for every project. The show had fantastic scoring. Give whoever that was his/or her Movie break. you don't want to attach some big name who doesn't have as strong a connection to the material. It's an unnecessary risk.

Okay - understood. How about a compromise? Scored for the movie itself but a CD "inspired" by Firefly. This is what they did for Spiderman and (I think) Mission Impossible 2.

Let Joss score the film! He's got plenty of time nowadays helming only ONE tv show.

He and Ben Edlund could share lyrical duties.

I had no problem with the incidental soundtrack score for the TV series. Bringing back those composers is fine too and would help maintain the awesome chemistry/creative symbiosis that all Firefly personnel seemed to enjoy.

I'm the biggest Elfmaniac on the planet and as much as I enjoyed his score for midnight run (The last bluesy guitar-oriented score he did, I reckon), I think a Firefly film should not hire him. Instead the creators should attempt to maintain as much of the show's original formula as possible.

I'm with everyone who says stay with the present composers.

But if some talent is brought in, perhaps for one song, I would love to see Sheryl Crow involved. She has been involved in soundtracks before, wag the dog for one and I think a slow bluesy song would be a good addition.

I think an excellent choice for a composer would be Don Davis, who does the score for the Matrix movies, among others. He also did Bound, the Watchowski Brothers first film, as well as Behind Enemy Lines, Jurassic Park III, and AntiTrust. He's very up and coming.

...of course I'm also kind of biased on account of him being my uncle, but still, he's really good.

I'd have to suggest the folks who did the soundtrack for StarTrek II:Wrath of Khan.

They did such a phenomenal job that the music became *part* of the movie, rather than a seperate entity, and yet.. without it, the movie would not have been anywhere near as good.

The score should be part and parcel of a flick, not a seperate thing designed to sell CD's Blech!, the very idea/attempt has killed quite a few movies.

On the other hand, the existing series scoring and effects seem more suited than anything anyone else could possibly cook up, and I'd really hate to lose that westernish "flavor" with a classical type score.

I figure Joss will figure out how to work that, he's done a bang-up job so far.
