You didn't explicitly state it, but "I can't believe anyone would consider it one of the top 10 of all time" sounds kind of condescending. That might not have been your intention, but it is how it sounded to me.

And, yes, you're right, there is a difference between a "best" list and a "favorite" list - the difference being that there can never be an actual list of the top 10 best films ever. Who's to say what's the best, and what's not? The best you could ever hope to achieve is to get a group of people to come to a consensus over what they think are the best movies ever, but that doesn't mean it's anything other than people's opinions.

The BDM was the best movie of the year, and easily in my top ten as well
But given my druthers i'd take several seasons of firefly any day
many more hours of enjoyment
many more stories told

I love the movie. While it could never hit #1 on my list for a variety of reasons, none having to do with whatever I decide IS #1, it could very well hit #2. The film is a paradox. Nothing in it is groundbreaking... yet, the film is in some ways. It is, perhaps, as close to the perfect form a film can be.

That being said, the answer to your question would be "In a heartbeat."

The story was meant to be told on television. Joss works best on television (although we'll see how that changes once he gets a few movies under his belt). My only caveat would be that it would end itself before it really jumped the shark. Of course, the spinoff* would be up and running by then.

* My 'perfect spinoff' idea would be set on an Alliance ship. It'd be great to see how the other half lives.
