Does anybody out there know if there is a petition to restart the series and if not how or who wants to start one up. I just know as soon as I saw Serenity I had to first thing best buy opened up go buy firefly the series and watch every episode.

Hey, welcome aboard. Sorry about the above, most of us are pleasant, and welcome new fans. Glad you enjoyed the movie and the series. I've seen several petitions floating around, not sure where the links are. The idea of Firefly coming back has been discussed nearly to death. But it always makes me smile that someone new loves it that much. From my understanding, which may not be accurate, the plan is:
If the movie does well ($80 million global) Universal wants 2 more movies. All 9 cast are signed for all 3 and from what I hear will be in all three (yes that may seem odd, but it's the word) If it makes less, well who knows. 20th Cent. FOX currently owns the rights to anything Firefly going onto TV. This expires in about 7 years, but everything has it's price. Universal could buy the rights and put it back on the air if they thought it was worth it. They own NBC and Sci-Fi.
Again, my understanding may be flawed, I welcome corrections/clarifications from the other Browncoats. And again encourage you to ignore mean people.

First off Dacramps (or do you prefer Francis?) let me apologize for the rude response you received. I am sure it was meant in jest, but the internet is a poor medium for relaying intention.

Secondly, let me welcome you to the site, and the fandom.

No, at this time there is no petition or movement to get Firefly back on the air. We, the "browncoats" as the fanbase call ourselves, went through all the petitions and other avenues to save the show back when Fox put it on "hiatus" back at the end of 2002. Joss Whedon's efforts, along with our support, got the DVD set for the series released in 2003 (which I highly recommend you pick up a copy of if you don't already own it) & the movie "Serenity" released.

I have learned to never say never when it comes to Joss & Firefly, but for now we wait & see how successful the movie is & where we go from here.

I've been lurking around here for the past two weeks or so, and I thought I'd finally post a message. I too am new to the 'verse. I saw the movie before I had ever seen a single episode, went the next day and bought the series and have not looked back since. There is something so special about this series, indeed the entire franchise and its fanbase, that I seriously doubt we will ever see the end of the crew of Serenity. Long live the Browncoats. There is no need to rise again, as Mal once said, because I don't think anything can keep you down. (I'd like to include myself, but there are so many who have been fighting for so long, I don't know if I deserve it).
