Alright. With so many avid Firefly fanatics here, I'm sure to come up with something on this.
I'm trying to put together a Wash music video. My only problem is coming up with the right song. Hence, the help I need. If anyone can make suggestions, please do so (along with a short excerpt from the lyrics as to why it's a good Wash song).
Anything goes. I'll take a humorous song (I've actually had "Don't Worry; Be Happy" suggested) if it fits! Thanks to all, and especially Joss for creating such a wonderful universe.
"I'm a leaf on the wind; watch how I soar."

Before I can even begin to think of songs, I have to know from whence you ferretted Zoe's middle name? We never even hear her last name on the show.

More Than a Woman, The BeeGeesOh, girl I’ve known you very well
I’ve seen you growing everyday
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away.
Suddenly you’re in my life
Part of everything I do
You got me working day and night
Just trying to keep a hold on you.
Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now I think I would die.
Oh say you’ll always be my baby
We can make it shine, we can take forever
Just a minute at a time.
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, oh, oh, oh.
There are stories old and true
Of people so in love like you and me
And I can see myself
Let history repeat itself.
Reflecting how I feel for you
Thinking about those people then
I know that in a thousand years
I’d fall in love with you again.
This is the only way that we should fly
This is the only way to go
And if I lose your love I know I would die.
Oh say you’ll always be my baby
We can make it shine, we can take forever
Just a minute at a time.
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, more than a woman to me
More than a woman, oh, oh, oh.

I offer "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz.
I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly
I’d fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
Let’s go and see the stars
The milky way or even mars
Where it could just be ours
Let’s fade into the sun
Let your spirit fly
Where we are one
Just for a little fun
Oh oh oh yeah !
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
I got to get away
Feel I got to get away
Oh oh oh yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
Oh yeah !
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away
I want to get away
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away
I want to get away
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you

From the companion book Serenity: A Visual Companion. In it Joss lets it slip. Also, in the novelization of the movie, there's an excerpt from the war, from Mal's POV, and it's in there as well, but it's not her middle name, but her maiden name (before she married Wash).
Those are great songs, I'll have to get them and listen to them! Thanks and keep the suggestions coming.

Useless Trivia #12: During "down time" in shooting the series, the actors hung out in the common area that was just outside the infirmary rather than going to the green room.

Just in case you haven't seen the BDM yet...

How about Neil Young's "Expecting to Fly"? It has a nice bittersweet sound to it, and lyrics that could hardly be more fitting:
There you stood on the edge of your feather
Expecting to fly
While I laughed, I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowin' that you'd gone...

"Crazy" by Seal.
It's not perfect, but it has a few lines that make me think of Wash (and Mal, for that matter).
And we're never gonna survive,
unless we get a little crazy.
And we're never gonna survive,
unless we have a little faith.
In a world full of people, only some want to fly,
isn't that crazy?

"10,000 Miles", the song Mary Chapin Carpenter sang on the soundtrack of 'Fly Away Home':
Oh, fare thee well, my own true love.
Fare well for a while.
I'm goin' away, but I'll be back,
though I go ten thousand miles.
