Fan Fiction and Serenity RPG Book Question

Hi!

I've been reading some of the fan fiction on here and happened to be on Amazon.com and saw the "Serenity RPG Book" my question is, is that book a good referance guide for Fan Fiction. I'm thinking of buying it.

I also on the way home yesterday picked up the novel and its very good!

It does add a lot of extra and useful background-y information, which is, of course, mostly non-canon.
