I thought that the old, full figured, Firefly Kaylee was a lot sexier than the new Serenity Kaylee.
Remember what LOUIS VUITTON said: "It's in the bag!"

My only complaint about Kaylee in the BDM is that she didn't have nearly enough screen time.

Yet she had some of the best lines in the film.
"My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

Can't we all just accept that she's simply gorgeous however she looks? Even when she's all made up as a half-Wraith?
I mean... have you not seen the pictures from the LA premiere?
Mind you... it's hard to choose between the Firefly ladies really, isn't it? We're not really spoiled for choice, after all... mmmm...
"My God - you're like a trained ape. Without the training."
"Come a day there won't be room for naughty men like us to slip about at all..."
I know the secret.

My other half was disappointed that she didn't wear her dungarees or overalls as shes got a pair of Kaylee dungarees with a Serenity patch on which she wore to the preview. Mind you I was in my Blue Sun tshirt and I'm not sure anyone recognised that!
Curse you Birmingham and your apathy!

I did think she looked a bit off in the movie but still damn fine! I quite liked her longer hair in Serenity aswell.

SPOILER POTENTIAL
As folk here no doubt no, Jewel had to gain 20lbs to be the Kaylee we all know and love. Not reasonable for her to do that for a movie - I know others have done it, but it was not necessary. I think she looked shiny, but I sympathize.
I think anyone with a favorite character will have some disapointments with the film. It seemed liked three episodes worth of fun, but we did not get three episodes worth of everyone.
We got plenty of Mal, of course, and plenty of River. Zoe did ok I think, and Jayne had his moments. Wash and Book?, well what can I say, they did have their moments. Inara and Kaylee seemed to have faired the worst in big moments - I suspect alot of Inara is on the cutting room floor, and we did not see any of mechanical genius Kaylee, things were so dark we did not see much of always cheerful Kaylee, and her great moments - and they were great - were strictly the yearning Kaylee.
But I think they all were true to what we knew before.
Cept Simon - I suspect he was everything a Simon fan might want him to be, but that was not the Simon from the show - he was much stronger, and I missed the socially awkward moments.
See how I'm not punching him, I think I've grown!

A lot of Inara is on the cutting room floor. There were some more Inara scenes. The only place where I think it was obvious that they cut stuff out of, was when Zoe says "sir" and Mal say "just tell me when we get there". I think there must have been something before that. It doesn't flow as well as the rest.
I agree with you about Kaylee - especially in the beginning of the film when she says "he'll be back befor eyou can spit. Not that you spit." I could tell what Joss was getting at, but i heard some people around me say "What?" I don't blame them. I also don't think that a lot of people saw what a great meachanic she was. I think she got better later on in the movie, though still notour Kaylee.

did anyone notice that in this movie Simon could lie wonderfully but in Jaynestown he was a bumbling idiot when lying?

Thats how she is and she looks dayum good!!
This type of thing offends and upsets Jewel! Read her blog. http://users.ev1.net/~alternity/abadeo/jewel_staite/Jewel.html
And she does read here occasionally.
Think about it. Imagine Summer got like really fat between the time of Firefly and Serenity (wouldn't happen, I know.) would people be making threads saying that they liked the old Summer better?
PsychicRiver
"Two by two, hands of blue."
"We'll take care of each other. I'll knit!"
"I swallowed a bug."
"I love Matt, he's great!!" Summer Glau, re me!

According to her interview for Empire Online (linked from another thread), Jewel was asked to gain 25 pounds to play Kaylee in Firefly. They compromised on 15 pounds, which she lost after the series was cancelled.
When it came time for the movie, Jewel didn't want to put the weight back on, and Joss told her he didn't care if she stayed thin.
We could, I suppose, see this as evidence of the lean times that have befallen Serenity's crew in the gap between the series and the movie.
