Nice man, I just DL'ed Celestia not a week ago, for other reasons...
Now this makes it that much cooler!
Now lets see if you did everything right... lol
;)
They need to put a file host on their forum here, so you can have attachment on your threads.
Kinda like the forums at Halomods.

I've gotta ask...
Are these accurate to the system we saw in the movie?

about as accurate as can be given the info we have. i actually based it off of an obscrure picture i found a while back on this site. i should also mention that its only got planets weve heard of, so there may yet be more out there. also, i am going to include Miranda and Haven soon; i just have to upload the newer file. should get to that by 10/10.
on another note, does anybody know what planet Mr. Universe's base was?

When the stars shine bright through the engine's trail and the dust of another world drops behind; When my ship is free of the open sky, its a damn good day to my way of mind; Theres a barren planet you never can leave, theres a rocky valley where we lost a war; Theres a cross worn 'round a soldier's neck, theres a man's faith died on Serenity's floor, but i stood my ground and ill fight once more; Its the last oath that i ever swore

The Visual Guide has a picture of many of the planets, did you happen to get it? I could scan the pic if need be.

Just got finished watching the 9-minute preview on Vividas and pausing the bit with the diagram of the solar system.
There appear to be 20 planets in the system. Unfortunately, the Vividas player uses hardware acceleration which makes taking screenshots impossible, or I'd have put one up on Photobucket and linked to it. If you really want to, you can go to vividas.com and watch the preview yourself, then pause the video (press spacebar) and really study it to get the psacing of the orbits and such.
Additionally, there's an illustration of the 'verse in the RPG book (I assume it's also in the Visual Companion) and a chart of the different planets with names and images. I'm probably gonna scan them tomorrow and post them to Photobucket.
Your work so far is really good! Keep it up!

Yeah, i saw all that. there are some problems though. unfortunately, charting a 3 dimenional orbit is pretty hard to do when working off of a picture, as its all done in code. for it to be truly accurate, i would need actual numbers on the planets' orbital statistics, such as semi-major axis, inclination, eccentricity, and the like.
I would love to make the textures on the worlds accurate to thier images, but unfortunately i dont know how to make textures for celestia. anybody who does, give me a shout; we could get that fixed.

Well, I've used textures myself, and since most of the ones ive DL'ed (Mars, Earth, Europa etc...) are in .dds, I woudl assume get photoshop, a .dds plugin, load the current textures, say no to use mipmaps.
Paste your newer high res one over the old one, save over the older one, say generate mipmaps when the window pops up.
Try it, if it doesnt work... we'll have to think of something else.

Has any one got the book "Serenity: The Official Visual Companion (Paperback)" there are star maps in there .as this will put to bed a the whole theme of how accurate the firefly verse. I have downloaded the celestia programme and i have had great fun flying around it . There in no litlle fly fly ships or any other space craft to play with but this is not my bath tub.
Fill each unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run.

Just as a note, the Verse file has been available in the Motherlode's user directory since September of 2005. Here's the link: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creators/k_eckhardt/
Odds are the file was never made available in the public section because it was, quite literally, lost in the shuffle. The Motherlode gets a multitude of file uploads every month, and there are only one or two people actively engaged in the site's upkeep most of the time. If you want, I can email them and see if I can get it added to the public sections.
Just thought I'd help, since I'm a recent convert to Firefly, and the textures used in this add-on are some old ones of mine
