Hi All,
I stumbled across this Firefly poll. It's interesting to think about. I had such a hard time trying to replace the cast with famous movie stars.
"If Firefly was turned into a movie who would you cast (other than the current players)?"
[EDIT: Old link was deleted. Too many scary pop ups]
Here are some results so far:
Almost Human's Casting
Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds - Rob Lowe
River Tam - Winona Ryder
Simon Tam - Jared Leto
Book, 'The Shepherd' - Samuel L. Jackson
Inara - Salma Hayek
Jayne - Kurt Russell
Kaylee - Majandra Delfino
Wash - Ethan Hawke
Zoë - Michelle Rodriguez
Leigh Guyette's Casting (Boonton, NJ USA)
Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds - Brendan Fraser
River Tam - Michelle Trachectenburg (Dawn from Buffy)
Simon Tam - Tobey McGuire
Book, 'The Shepherd' - Morgan Freeman
Inara - Lucy Liu
Jayne - Hugh Jackman
Kaylee - Allison Hannigan
Wash - Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Zoë - Jennifer Garner

There is an annoying pop up that tries to get you to install a browser, but I just clicked CANCEL.
ENJOY
I picked:
Mal= Will Smith
River = Michelle Trachtenburg
Simon = Matt Damon
Book = Tommmy Lee Jones
Inara = Salma Hayek
Jayne = Mr. T
Kaylee = Britany Spears
Wash = Owen Wilson
Zoe = Jennifer Garner
I'm way off, I know it. The truth is, the original cast members really can't be replaced.

It would be sacrilege to talk of replacing the current people.
The only thing I can think of would be the crazy seeming girl from that “I’ll never tell” movie, I think it was called “Don’t say a word” Is a good fit for River, so whoever played her could likely do River well.

It's not sacrilege, it's speculation Chris.
I picked:
Denzel Washington for Mal
I forget for Inara... could have been Gwyneth Paltrow
John Cleese for Book
I forget for River and I forget for Simon
Christopher Reeve for Jayne ha ha ha
Mike Meyers for Wash
Neve Campbell for Zoe

It's so hard to do, I find it a challenge. The cast of Firefly have defined their characters so absolutely. Still, it's kind of fun to try.
What if Queen Latifa played Zoe?

Regardless, have some fun with us.
Who is your pick for Book?

Mal -- Harrison Ford. Nobody else can do the pissed-off look as well as Nathan.
Queen Latifah? Granted, she is very talented and funny, but would not look quite as good in those painted-on jeans that Zoe prefers.

I agree with you completely. What if Harrison Ford played Mal and Madonna played Inara? That's better, age wise.
Can Madonna act?

Eh...not so much. She's a bit whiny for my tastes, and she's not as...I dunno, classy as I generally like my Inaras to be. Harrison Ford would make a good Mal, though. Somewhere in another thread it was said that Mal and Han Solo would, if they fought, find out they were long-lost brothers or something; I agree whole-heartedly with that theory.
