Look at the wallpapers in the newest feature. EVERYONE has a gun!
Kaylee has a gun and looks like she knows what to do with it.
WASH has two!
This is NOT right!
There is ONE scene where every crew member has a gun in Serenity.
PIE!

Actually, I was reading the novelization today, and it says in the scene in the bar that Mal, Zoe, Wash, and Jayne each checked their guns, but that Kaylee had no gun to check.
Since when does Wash ever carry a gun? The only conclusion I can come to is that he started carrying one after War Stories.

I think you're right, Retro, notice how he has the six shooter that Zoe handed him in 'War Stories' ("Six shots, then drop it. Keep moving.") out in 'Heart of Gold' when Burgess' men are on Serenity.
There's just something about being tortured that makes a man want to be strapped everytime he leaves his spaceship.
And to play devil's advocate with the guns and wallpapers, posters, etc.
We have to find an audience. We love this universe, and in order to keep it around we have to make certain concessions, and one of those is somethings in the advertisements won't be represented exactly.
We need to lure people into the theaters with all the guns and explosions, and then whack them over the head with good dialogue and amazing characterizations.
They can't fall in love if they never see our baby.
Come 'Serenity 2' we can all have a nice big laugh at the next batch of ads aimed at the ignorant.

Technically, yes, in the original editing she did. But the Visual Guide says it was changed by CGI to a gun, because an earlier scene (introducing the crossbow) was cut out.
And, yes, everyone holds a gun, but *please* trust the movie. It works. Even Kaylee with a gun, I think Joss found the *only* possible motivation for her to pick up one of those things.
