This was posted on the OB, so I'm spreading the word:

Next week when you are waiting in line to buy your ticket(s) to Serenity, how about doing a bit of FF reenactment with some strangers? Find some people who are clearly choosing to attend a different movie or who are clearly undecided. Then offer to pay their admission if they will attend Serenity!
We can surely increase sales, as well as new Browncoats in this way.

Browncoat: You're gonna come with us.
Non-Brown: Excuse me?
Browncoat: You like movies. What you care about is movies, and mine's the nicest.
Non-Browncoat: She don't look like much.
Browncoat: Well, she'll fool ya'.

Thanks Rhoby & JenskiJen for this sweet little idea!

The point is, just get as many people to go when 'Serenity' premieres this weekend. Let 'Serenity' become the anthem of our generation who grew up watching 'Buffy: the Vampire Slayer,' 'Angel,' and eventually 'Firefly.'

What a great idea - in true Firefly fashion, we pirate people going to other movies, and turn them into Browncoats!
Also, a "Step #4" that I would like to add to Haken's list of things to do for the opening, is to go to the Hollywood Stock Exchange TODAY ( http://www.hsx.com), sign up and get free HSX money, BUY SERENITY STOCK, and BUY SERENITY 'CALL' OPTIONS! Not only will you have fun making imaginary money speculating on your favorite BDM, but you will be feeding some more "buzz" to the Hollywood illuminati who are already starting to speculate that Serenity is going to be the Big Fall Season Movie!

"Let 'Serenity' become the anthem of our generation who grew up watching 'Buffy: the Vampire Slayer,' 'Angel,' and eventually 'Firefly.'"
Actually, this Browncoat grew up watching 'Star Trek' (the original - yes, I'm that old). But the idea is valid. Pull EVERYONE you can into the opening weekend's showings. Let's show 'em what they've been missin'; show Fox how badly they blew it; and show Hollywood just how HOT this thing really is!

Hehe, good idea- just try not to creep out the moviegoers.

ummm... That's just sort of creepy. If some random person outside a theatre acosted me and tried to make me see a particular film, it would make me want to see it less.
The idea Haken proposed is much more practical and positive, I think, without making Browncoats seem like lunatics.

I think the more-subtle-and-less-scary way to do this is to find people who look like they haven't decided what they want to see and say "some of my friends bailed on me at the last second, so I have some extra tickets for this great movie Serenity that you're welcome to have for free..."

Serenity is coming. 9/30/05.
