The Englishman with the closest accent to Spike's I have heard had been in the Merchant Marine out of the East Coast of the US in his teens-to-twenties with a bizarre mixture of accent and vocabulary.

Where are you based? I grew up in Edmonton (North London) in a really dingy area - very working class. I never came across anyone speaking like that. Maybe he's from south of the water - probably speak in tongues down there (ooohhhh war is about to erupt, no offence intended)

the idea was that Spike (when he was turned into a vampire) turned his back on his own 'class'
and adopted a low class North London uneducated accent
(which he practiced with Tony Head who normally talks like that)
it was supposed to be funny when we finally find out that Spike really was a middle-class Mama's boy who wrote poetry.

I'd place the accent east of the Lea and north of the Thames, as spoken to strangers - that is slower than natural and with pauses at the glottals. This area has a dynamic demography though and the accent is now only present in a social group that has been undergoing a diaspora over the last several decades

my goodness, i never knew there were so mnay different british accents!!!! down here (australia) there's pretty much just a WA accent and an eastern states accent- and there's hardly even any difference between them!!!

james marsters english accent was terrible when he first appeared, as the years went on it got better and better. that as they say practise makes perfect.
and yeah anthony heads band candy accent is his real one.
lest we forget alan tudyks attempt at english is a knights tale, bless his little socks.
Im a londoner and i suppose i have a london accent, but ive also had theatre training so have lost that true london drawl.
