Hi. I'm new here, at least officially. I've been guesting for awhile. I'm also fairly new to the Fireflyverse--which is a little embarrassing since I've been a Whedon and a Sci-fi fan for years and years. Where was I in 2002? But I never in my life before fell for anything so hard or so fast, and I'm doing my gorram best to drag anyone and everyone I know along for the ride. Anyway, my Browncoat name, obviously, comes from Wash's reaction, in Chinese, to Saffron's sabotage job on Serenity. Jing tsai = brilliant, which also implies, well, Shiny!

Well, River is one of my favorite characters. And since she is sort of seen as the child on Serenity, and everyone tends to look after her, I decided to use my favorite Mandarin phrase Mei-Mei and add it after Serenity.

Well, I've worked in various office jobs since I left college, which was always at odds with my hippie outlook on life. I've recently made a career jump and become an IT trainer. I mostly teach beginners, people who have no idea what they're doing and are usually terrified, so I call myself the Desktop Hippie since I teach them how to live in peace and harmony with their computers. The first 3 letters in my name are mel I liked mellow but being from cajun country (Geaux Tigers) I modified it accordingly, I've thought that Cara-Mel might be a good alternative or perhaps Pell-Mel.

I couldn't think of anything interesting, so I went with the very prosaic montanagirl, since that's where I live and what I am.

Mines fairly obvious.
I'm a big baseball fan and softball player. But, I chose it mainly because last year during a league game, I tried to leg a single into a double and on the slide into second, I broke my wrist, but I was safe. That's all I was concerned about. In fact I ended up finishing the game and playing the second game right afterwards.
My wife, on the other hand, no pun intended, didn't think it was that funny when she had to take me to the hospital the next day cause my hand was literally the size of a softball.

From the Objects in Space line where Mal says, "I find River pleasant enough myself, but there is an oddness to her."
Seemed an apt description of me.

It's my name.
And also, my brother is CallMeAth and he convinced me to come here after he hooked me on the show and I couldn't think of anything clever, and for crying out loud my name IS Serenity, so it just made sense to use his CallMe and add my name after. Kind of like a surname. In China, the surname comes first.
But I get called "Call" or "CallMe" sometimes, and once someone asked if I was a "CallGirl" or a "CallBoy" which I did not fine humourous.

Mine means 'storm' in Irish. I took it from the Keltaid series of books by Patricia Keneally Morrison that I fell in love with years ago. The Queen, Aeron, was nicknamed Aeron Anfa because of her way of ruling and her capacity for swift vengence upon her enemies.
Let's just say there are times I see similarities between us . . .

When I was a teen, I thought up an "alias" with a fake Scandinavian sounding name: Ned Hjermsted. I thought I was being clever, but it turns out Hjermsted is an actual last name (at least in Denmark).
Pronouncing it the Danish way... the J is silent and the D at the end sounds like a very hard L.
Hjermsted has just sort of stuck around all these years and I still use it particularly when someone else has already claimed the handle "mattro" on a board or service.
"Hjermsted" does have a nice outer planet ring to it, wouldn't you say? A moon colonized by descendants of northern Europe perhaps? or the name of their settlement?
