Bat,
Those were the two questions I had after seeing the advance screening, which were not addressed in the film, but which were answered by the comic spoiler. I had no answers to them before now.

Well, then I guess the comics are more important than I thought. But surely at least one of those two creates some questions. And there must be at least SOME kind of answer.
But don't tell me what it is.
I guess this makes the comics canon. Has Joss made that clear?

Some folks barely get the bills paid. Some folks have to save a while to even make a 20 or 30 dollar 'frivolous' purchase.

The comics will be reprinted in a Serenity graphic novel that will be released in February (if I remember correctly). It will probably cost about $10 at the most, which is not bad considering it has all 3 issues.
But you won't be able to read it before the movie - thats the only problem

My understanding is yes the comics are considered canon.
Two other bits:
The graphic novel will sell for $12.95 (that's the list at Dark Horse.)
And this note, also at the Dark Horse site:
• Look for the Serenity DVD release in spring 2006!
