As others have said, there is virtually no hope of Firefly returning to TV and much is riding on the outcome of "Serenity."

However, I read on the Whedonesque forums that during his recent tour of Australia, Whedon said that if the trilogy happens he'd be interested in subsequently returning to TV with a Firefly spin-off series involving one or two of the main cast. So, that puts an extra importance on "Serenity's" success. We will never get Firefly back, but the verse may fly across the small screen again at some date--if the movie does well.

I hope this isn't going to be one of these limited release affairs where I have to drive two states to see it.

As "Serenity" is a $40 million film, it wouldn't make any money on a limited release. I think they've got at least 2000 screens in US on opening weekend, so you should hopefully have no problem finding it.
