*passes chocolate martini*
I never understood the (seemingly) American culture of get married young anyway...
Whats wrong with getting to know someone (and of course the right someone) before sticking a ring on their finger?
I mean, if you find the right person straight away, lucky you, but still, don't get married to them that week...
Just MHO.

No, that's totally rant-worthy; good to get it off your chest.
I don't understand the mentality of people who feel they can envision the sort of life other people should be leading, and then pressure them into falling into line. Parents, politicians, pundits -- nobody gets to pick a lifestyle for anybody else. Half the social ills on the planet come from people pulling that crap, and the people it's directed at resenting it (and acting out on that).
No martini for me, thanks, but that black & tan looks kinda inviting.

Thanks guys,I feel a bit better.
It doesn't help that I've turned down 2 proposals already. Let's hope 3rds the charm.
*passes Spinny a black & tan*
You know, I have a nasty habit of nicknaming people, I'm pretty sure I started "Spinny". You don't seem to mind it, so I hope it was okay. You'd tell me if it wasn't, right?

Thankee, that'll hit the spot.
No, Spinny is just fine, it's a nickname I've had for years.
There's a whole geeky backstory to that, maybe some day I'll bore with it. Spinland emerged from that, it's the name of the graphic art studio I tried to make a living with for a couple of years before I got a real job. Still have the old web site up: www.spinland.biz, haven't updated it in forever but I still use the domain for hosting images and other stuff now and then. I'd gotten to calling everything "spin-whatever" as a kind of joke.
In relationships and other major life decisions, the primary consideration is never to settle for anything less than 100% what you were looking for. It's better to say no and do without than to settle; the consequences of living with something less than you deserve aren't pretty, as I know from experience. People who pressure you to sell yourself short are doing you a discourtesy.

Serenity, I so know how that feels except from completely the other side of the story. I'm the first person to go to uni in my family and the comments I have had from grandparents, aunts, parents and so all saying 'have a career, don't get married, children are an unecessary tie' etc etc have caused me a few uncomfortable moments. I have no intention of ever having a career, I never want a 'proper' job, I can't wait to get married and children - well I guess I can skip on those. I like my pubs too much...

Heh; thanks. That CV page is as out-of-date as the rest of it. Some of the stuff I used there, I don't even have installed any longer, and the main modeling software I've been using since April isn't even mentioned. Maybe some day I'll overhaul the whole lot to reflect a hobbyist's approach and give more current stuff to look at. Maybe. Some day. Just hard to dredge up any motivation therefor.

You use Lightwave now don't you? Or was I speaking to someone else on that subject? I forget.
Anyway... I'm trying to learn Lightwave at the moment (cause its the most dissimilar to 3DS Max I can find and often used in TV animations) problem is I find it so counter-intuitive (maybe cause its so different to what I'm used to, maybe cause its multi-platform, I dunno...) that most of the time I end up swearing and threatening Lightwaves programmers with physical violence...
EDIT: Not literally threatening them, like camping outside their houses with shotguns or something... erm, no not at all...
err just you know pretend, uhuh...

Yep; Lightwave these days. Still keep Rhino around but mostly use it at work when I use it at all these days. To me it's klunky and counter-intuitive, but not as bad as 3DS!
Lest this drift into total technogeekbabble: my learning that program is how I heard about Firefly in the first place, so I owe it a huge debt of gratitude!

Dearest Serenity,
I completely understand. Engaged once..big mistake! Am quickly approaching 29 and my folks are going crazy. You'd think they'd be happy that I've got Jake, but no. Dating for 5 years mean we should have been married and reproducing by now. I think at this point, Jake and I are putting off the formal commitment because our parents keep harping about the lack of one. Eh. It'll happen someday. And if not, at least I met a lot of great people on the way.
