The kids and I went to see Sky High this weekend. Suddenly, I was transported back to the Firefly pilot, Serenity. In Sky High there is a scene with Commander (Kurt Russell) atacking a giant robot that has an out-of-focus zoom effect. I remembered Joss talking about that effect on the DVDs (when they zoomed in on the reaver ship when it was chasing Serenity through atmo). He said that having those types of imperfections in CGI were very difficult and nobody else was doing it. (Am I remembering that correctly...I've loaned out my DVDs again so I can't check.) I even made the kids sit all the way through the credits to see who had done the postproduction work, but I didn't remember how had done FF's so I didn't recognize any names.

Didn't we also see this with Battlestar Galactica? If not the same folks doing the FX, it's a similar style.

ZOIC did Firefly and does BG, don't know about Sky High.

Out of curiosity I looked through all the effects people on Sky High (IMDB) and only found one name that cross matched with either Serenity or Firefly. Jeffrey Benoit was pre-visualization on Serenity and Sky High. Doesn't mean some of the others weren't fans though.
