Yeah that should be fine!

I need to getta hold of these comics.

And I like the River cover...the Simon one is awful though.

I'm still annoyed that my books aren't here yet!

Spinny-don't you start going all Jubal Early on us.

Here is my thought on the subject, though. When you squee, it is the external expression of an internal emotional response. So, even if the external sound is not heard, the internal response still happened, so the squee still existed, even if only internally. Make sense?

And when trees fall in the forest, the other trees hear and mourn.

From Amazon? Believe it says ships in 10-13 days for the VC now (waiting on mine from Amazon.com, which has at least been posted!).

Anyone seen the novel in the shops in the UK?

No one would hear or be indeed able to produce a Squee in space...

Explosive decompression is a terrible thing...

So the act of squeeing imbues the squee itself with meaning, even if it's not actually heard.

Now, does that seem right to you?

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have a second or two before you actually explode or decompress or whatever? That's just about enough time for one last, quick sque- if you ask me.

And Spinny-exactly, I think. But I think existentialism is bunk, so let's not go there. Plus-it makes my head hurt. Ow!

A neat little discussion of what really happens to a body in vacuum can be found at this link:

http://www.sff.net/people/Geoffrey.Landis/vacuum.html

A summary of the findings:

Quote:

A frequently asked question is: how realistic is the scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey where astronaut Bowman makes a space-walk without a helmet? How long could a human survive if exposed to vacuum? Would you explode? Would you survive? How long would you remain conscious?

The quick answers to these questions are: Clarke got it about right in 2001. You would survive about a ninety seconds, you wouldn't explode, you would remain conscious for about ten seconds.

I don't know if you'd have enough time to think about squeeing if you were about to decompress but i'm not sure...

And good new sig Citizen, made me lol, but luckily no-one's in my part of the office at the mo....
