What episode did the third prologue start with? "Safe," right?

Myself, I like both

But the second one with Mal has a special something about it.

That part at the end where he says " Don't much care what it is " really brings in the sadness and empty feeling Mal has towards his post war existance. It is right up there with the part in the pilot where Jayne says " Any one you walk away from, and we got the goods. I count this as a win " and Mal turns and walks away with obvious pain in his eyes and mutters " Yeah we win "

I think the strongest part of the show is the broad emotional scale of the characters, it allows you to identify with them more so that more sterile shows such as say StarTrek

Why does veything always end up bashing something else? You don't need to insult star trek, firefly desn't need that kind of comparison.

I don't think I was bashing or insulting StarTrek, at least it wasn't my intent, I was just comparing the styles of writing. The closest any StarTrek series went to writing culimative emotional conflict was DS9 and my feeling it was the best of all the ST shows.
My comment was meant more about style peferences and what I like and why more than anything else.

I am sure others enjoy the other style more so as well. and for other reasons.

Yeah, you weren't bashing it. It just seems like it always comes to that, I'm getting sick of it so when you compared the two I pounced, sorry. My bad.

Hey no worries, I don't like reading bashing comments either.

I think Scifi TV is very diverse and some feel quite strongly about their opinions.

StarTrek is very technological, it shows in the way they approach problems in their stories.

Firefly is more human, and about the journeys of life set in a very tough setting.

Babylon 5 At times was both and neither, with a huge helping of politics thrown in.

Farscape I think tends to be more about human drama ( as well as Muppet ) with a dose of politics

Each show has its strengths and weaknesses depending on the viewers preferences. I think the more a writer trys to do it all, the more cluttered the story becomes and the original message is lost.

All in all, I wish I had half the talent of the writers of any of the above shows. It must be great to work in any of these.

BTW If any Mutant Enemy people out there has a job opening for an ex Soldier / Aircraft Mechanic / Millwright who like to play around with writing.... CALL ME. Don't much care what it is.

Anyone remember "Book" being God's cousin, Rod aka "Heady" from that wonderful TV show TEEN ANGEL? That was a great show. I remember there was a little comercial thing and "Marty" comes out and since Ron Glass is only a floating head in the show, Marty says, "the sad truth is that the actor that plays him really IS that way in real life. That's right. He's only a head. *tear*"
And then Ron comes out and he has a body and all and he's just like "Marty!" It was funny.

Anyway...yeah, I like the monologue that's like "a ship will get you work. A gun will let you keep it..."

Anyone ever figure out whether it was a solar system (misnomer, if it isn't around Sol, that being the one and only sun, it's not a solar system) or a galaxy?

I figure solar system, we have no reason to suspect that they can travel at superrelitivistc speeds that would be necesary to navigae a galaxy. But it would have to be a big system, and at the edge of the galaxy if the revers got the full view of nothing.
