I'm kind of surprised that Family Guy got uncancelled, I'm guessing due to the great DVD sales and fan-support, and yet FOX hasn't offered a return for firefly. As far as I can see there's a huge amount of fan presence for firefly. What gives?

I'd guess that no one that might be a "player" in Firefly's future is going to do anything until after they see how well the movie does.

That rocks -that those folks are holding out to see how the movie does.
Before I saw the whole series I saw the trailer for Serenity and thought (man that's one of those trailers which just about shows you the whole movie) - then watched the whole series in two days and now I dont' want to see the trailer at all - I just want to enjoy it from beginning to end. How thrilled must these actors have been to reprise their roles.
I think maybe part of why the show is so strong is because it does exactly what you think it won't time and again. In Heart Of Gold when Inara and Mal speak after she finds out that Mal slept with her friend I turned to my pal and said "you know, that Inara only has like one mode; uptight and commandin..." cut to her bawling her eyes out - as if on cue. 10 episodes deep I was still surprised. I dont' beleive my contribution to this thread today is really on topic. You'll forgive me.

As Greg Edmonson said during a podcast interview, Firefly is too good for t.v. After seeing the DVD several times over, and SERENITY a couple of times.... he's right. Don't know how else to put it.

Too good for tv - I beleive that.
Now I have to ask this - how is it that so many people have seen Serenity the movie?

Wow, that's not a very optimistic outlook on life.
I did go to a screening in June of Serenity. But I won't tell you a dang thing about it except that it was INCREDIBLE and that River is made of chocolate (oh no! I gave away the ending!)

There's been several early screenings this summer, in 10, 20 and then 35(?) cities. Here in Atlanta, there were at least 3 ( I think ). And that's not counting the special showings in Scotland and Australia... Then there was a PREVIEW right before Labor Day. Where as the screening was sort of a test run for the movie, still lacking some FX and musical scoring, the Preview was the actual movie, all finished and as it will be seen come Sept. 30th.
