I'm late to all this but there have to be more like me out there - who didn't see the show, don't remember it, aren't major Joss Wheddon fans and someone said "hey watch some of this DVD I bought of a series Fox cancelled in it's first year". I went from being skeptical about another "space drama" to absolutely dreading watching the last episode. Now what? What are the chances that if the movie makes some good money that someone else - maybe SciFi will go back to Wheddon et al. and say "start it back up" - I don't know of another show that ever did this, but it seems possible - is there any reason to hope?

Sorry to bump my own thread (won't do it again) but I have minimal experience foruming and I imagine the regulars are tsk tsk tsking because I'm the millionth person to barge in and ask this - but if there is an existing thread where all this is gone over (the possibility of the show being resurected if the movie does well) a kind link would be appreciated. The general consensus is that if^H^H when the film is successful they will make more films rather than go back to TV.

as of now Fox still own the rights to the tv show, and joss will not go back to fox

but if the movie does well there will be more

he has also said he wont rule out going back to tv if it meant carrying the story on, but that we should not hold our breaths

but then this is joss whedon we are talking about, and he acheives the impossible lots and lots

Word is that the entire original cast has signed on the bottom line for 3 movies, if and as financed.

I'd love nothing more than to get a weekly fix of fresh Firefly on the tube, but unless another network waves a huge wad of cash at Fox, it's unlikely given the bad blood between Fox and Joss.

I appreciate your responses folks. Movies would be sweet. Fox has the rights to the tv show. Huh. We'll I look real foward to seeing the movie. I'm sure I'm not the only one - or the only who wants to see it do really well. Three movies would be great. Five or six good seasons of the series would be killer. I'm still not sure what it is about the show that so gets under the skin. It just hits all the right notes somehow.

personally I don't think it is unreasonable to hope,
it is highly unlikely...
but a successful film can do a lot to change a situtaiton.
Fox has rights and contracts, which can disappeare in return for money...
nothing is ever impossible.

Most likely : triology of movies (but that could take a long time)
also REALLY likely : more comic books (takes less time)
unlikely : a new TV show

Joss has also thrown out ideas about wood cuts
or operas
or some kind of shadow puppet theater??

As has happened in the past, people continue to confuse the Fox television network with 20th Century Fox Film studios. It is 20th that produced the show and retains the rights to Firefly, not Fox TV. While it is true that Joss would not work for Fox TV again, he has repeatedly said that his relationship with 20th was always good.

But...I think the factor that is the most important to consider here is that Joss disbanded his Mutant Enemy production company. If he ever returns to tv either that company will have to be reformed or another created to replace it.

Only time will tell.

I believe that if 20th Century Fox film studios who produced the show (and are frequently refered to by simply saying 'Fox') wanted to review the contract that Joss could easily slap together a new production company or revive Mutant Enemy.

I think Joss might resist airing a future show on Fox Television, but his other shows were also produced by 20th Century Fox etc etc and were aired on The WB and UPN..he was actually pretty happy with those relationships (he may have been unhappy about having the rug pulled out from under Ats, but the guy who made that decision has left The WB anyway).

At any rate it is ridiculous to speculate...
the powers that be don't even know themselves what they will do from one year to the next.

I know what you mean, that's the exact feeling I had - almost a sense of disbelief that a show could take me in so completely. It's still a mystery to me.
