I live in Green Cove Springs (just outside of Orange Park, just outside of Jax) and and new convert, looking to maybe meet some folks to see the film with. (Unless I missed some cool pre-screening...)

Guess not - that's why I hate this place (and the humidity and bugs)...back in Tucson, there were so many clubs to go to sometimes I missed any that night because I couldn't decide which to go to.
Heck, there were *competing* clubs - both on and off campus (the UofA) - at least 2 rocket clubs on *campus* alone....and for every club on campus, there was one off as well...
Here - nada. Everybody's apathetic. Just look up and compare Tucson to Jacksonville on Meet-up.com....and the sad part is this is a BIGGER city!
No wonder I don't meet people...
Guess everyone is busy doing crystal meth to get out...
Sorry. Had to gripe.
Gorram lower-southeast!

Well, dang dude. I just read your first post and was going to invite you to my Browncoat group until you insulted my hometown!!!

Just kidding,
I moved away from Jax Beach a couple of months ago. Too many damn tourists moving there...
I still know a couple of Browncoats there, I'll let them know you're looking to hook up for the BDM. They were planning on watching it at the OP Mall.
You don't live in Jax, you live in the Westside...the hind end of Jax. Get out towards the beaches and UNF, you'll find some life out there.

Sorry about the insult. It's just that my dad retired (from the Army) in the desert southwest when I was 16 and up untill about 6 years ago I lived there. It's home to me (I remember getting out of car for the first time in the desert, smelling the air, and knowing I was *home*.) I have been unhappy every since I left.
(Plus I love astronomy and geology and caving and hiking mountains, and there isn't much of any of that here - no rocks, caves that I know about, or mountians, and alot of rain.)
I do like the beach here though, but that's about it. And in Tucson, if you want, you can go from the beach in Rocky Point Mexico to the Sonorian desert, to the snow on Mt. Lemon all in one day...
And since I got here, I have been despertly searching for clubs and activities, and finding very little.
It doesn't help either that I am a fairly liberal (but not PC - bunch of thought nazis!) atheist, in a conservative and very religious part of the country.
I have met very few like minded people.
Also, my (now-ex)wife left me here about 3 years ago (moved to rural Illinois - I *hate* cold, and talk about being a fish out of water!) and everything here reminds me of her and my kids. 'course since we met in Tucson, I fear it will be the same when I return... :(
I'm just really homesick - and lonely. (Only one real local friend, and we just met.) It was the same in Illinois - they had a university in the town I lived in, but no activities or clubs...
If I could aford it, I would like to learn to scuba however...
And I *could* use to get out more...

No problem about the insult. I lived there for 20+years, so I KNOW how bad it is...
Try and keep your head up, reaverchow. I know how it is to be so far away from "home" and away from my daughter. I'm up in NE Tennessee for work for awhile. Give Jax a chance, it just might surprise ya! (Get away from the Westside!!!)
Damn, that Orlando shindig sounds like it's going to be a blast! I wish I could make it!

I have 3 kids - 2 daughters and a son, which I *technically* have joint custody of (but my ex is trying to change that) but they live in Illinois and I have Seasonal Affective Disorder and winters make me so depressed I can't even get out of bed.
I miss my kids, *and* my home. And my old college friends.

Well, I will *always* miss the Southwest (untill I make it back there - which I am plotting even now) but I should try the beaches 'till then, and there is an area (in the outerwise seedy downtown) called something like "5 points" (I think) which doesn't look so bad. Plus, St. Augustine has some stuff going on.
