So I've got a plan on how to get a 150,000 extra Browncoats.

Starting a Serenity thread at a forum isn't 'spamming'. I just put it that way so you'd know what I was talking about doing.
I'd probably be posting up the same topic over and over. Maybe get a botto do it for me.
Why is everyone here being so negative? Jeez..

I'm with Blinker on this. If some random outsider posted here promoting something completely off-topic then we'd either a) flame them b) ignore it. It's fine trying to get people interested in it - just keep it to relevant film/TV forums or those that you post on regularly anyway. Don't spam random strangers - you'll just annoy them and probably make them hostile towards the very thing you're trying to promote.

The reason people are expressing concern is because lately Browncoats are beginning to get a very bad rep in the 'verse (as you can see by this topic in another thread). We have to be very careful what we do from here on out to avoid being lumped as 'fanboys/girls with mental problems,' because that turns people away from seeing the movie. If people voice a concern (and PRiver's a good egg), they are just trying to help, not tear you down. Browncoats don't tear others down (unless we plan on building them back better
). And because of how rapidly you were put on the defensive here in friendly territory, I too would voice a concern over how well you will respond in the nasty world of the internet. I certainly don't want you or anyone else turning fans off, because I really want a sequel or six. So be careful what you do, and remember how it affects others. On an unrelated sidenote, I think this is the first time I've poked my head out of RWED for quite some time. I don't want to make it a habit; I'm not sure how Hero and Chrisisall will get along without me

No, it's not. Assuming it's posted in the appropriate place/subcategory.

This, on the other hand, is spam.

When someone pulls a stunt like this at any forum worth its salt, the first thing that happens is their account gets banned, or at least restricted. Obviously this won't really matter to you, but it will effectively mean that your stunt accomplished none of the desired results, and many undesired ones. People, if they discuss anything in those threads, are unlikely to talk about anything actually related to the subject of the spam, instead discussing "that idiot spammer who got hisself banned". If Serenity ever DOES come up, it will almost automatically be negatively associated for any person who didn't already know about it.
Now, you may get lucky and have some browncoat apologist there who will cover for your mistake and implore people not to judge the entire fanbase or worse, the movie, by the poor behavior of one fan. He may even be able to get people at his forum on board with the movie himself. (And if that's the case, wouldn't you do better to leave spreading the good word to people with credentials in their traveled circles?) But more likely than not, something like this is bound to become just one more black mark in the ever growing annals of "Browncoats Behaving Badly".

Yeah, but you need to visit OTHER forums too. Just posting on your few forums again and again won't convince any new people to watch it.
Second, I don't post on forums that I'm not actually interested in with things like this because, as others have already said, it is considered spam. Creating an account to post something will result in that account being banned (as has already been posted).
I highly recommend people posting on all the forums they are members of, but posting on random forums just to get the information out there would be bad, in my opinion. Seriously, if someone did what you are saying on the forums that I've already hit as an established and trusted member would kill the interest I've worked so hard to develop! Please don't do that!

It really isn't that we're negative about what you're suggesting - it's that we're concerned that there are specific reasons that it shouldn't be done. I'm sorry that you aren't interested in seeing this, but please - I'm begging you - don't do this. Post on forums you are an established member; that's a great idea! In fact, amongst all of us just at this site we probably cover an extremely broad spectrum of sites.
But don't spam up a bunch of forums...

In my experience, people don't react well to spam, regardless of what it's selling. By all means, spread the gospel of Joss to the forums you already post at, but dumping ads onto every last site on the web isn't likely to earn us converts or a good name.
I gotta side with Blinker...it's not so much the "if" I'm smelling on this plan, it's the "spam" I'm smelling! Now, I'm not a fan of spam...the food or the digital version. The Monty Python stuff, I love, but I digest. Anyway, I doubt folks'll take kindly to your droppin' of meat by-products in their places of worship.
Now, for the official UnchartedOutlaw Gold Star on the Forhead Award...who can tell me what SPAM stands for?

The food is SPiced hAM.
In regards to mass unsolicited e-mails, spam doesn't really stand for anything (some think it's derived from the Monty Python skit), although there is a SPAM act signed by the US congress that is an acronym for something, I can't remember exactly what. However, I remember seeing on a forum somewhere someone said SPAM could stand for Spewing a Plethora of Asinine Messages.
