was the man with the cybernetic eye... i didnt releaize who it was at first, but once I did, whoa how cool! we all thought agent dobson the Fed bought the farm in the first episode when Mal shot him in the head and they tossed him out the door onto whitefall as they left.. it would be funny to see him in the movie as well... cause he is totally off his rocker obcessed with killing mal!

Oddly enough, I dropped the hint we had a few weeks ago - that the Blue Hand guys would team up with someone else from the show - to a friend of mine. He guessed it right away.

I saw the preview pages that went up a few weeks ago, so I knew that one was coming. I was, however...

Pleasantly surprised to see Badger return.

That's supposed to be DOBSON??!!?? Wow crappy drawing! (or crappy eyesight) I recognised the name, but the the way he's drawn makes him look a little like Mal.
Confusing to the extreme.
I also agree with whoever said that Rivers voice was a bit off towards the end.. If we're thinking of the same panel.. well I was convinced that it was a Jayne-ism ("It smells like crotch") maybe Rivers been hanging out with Jayne too much.

Shiny comic though!
I want my movie!!!!

I was on my way to the futon shop today when I noticed a comic book store just across the street. I went in on the off chance that I could get a copy of the first one, and not only did I get ALL 3 covers of the first one, I got all 3 covers of the second one--and all at cover price! The guy had sold out of the first one, but he gave me his copies. HIS OWN COPIES. I cannot believe what I wonderful experience I had for my very first time in a comic book store.

Carry-On Comics in Waterloo ROCKS!!!

Throwing in my two cents on #2. I picked up all three from the wonderful comic store Emerald City here in St. Pete. They set both #1 and #2 aside for me and called me to let me know they were in. Sorry I digress, but after Nathan's rant about the comic jerk where he went, I wanted to point out I had no problems.

I admit I haven't read this whole thread, so I apologize for the repeat, if any. The Kaylee cover was NOT flattering at all, didn't even look like Kaylee. Didn't like the Zoe cover either because they didn't even get her rifle correct.

As for the story, I do see the resemblance in the Dobson drawing so no fault there for me. But Shepard hitting Mal, come on, just not seein' it. The rest of the story, well, I'll reserve judgement to #3.

Not happy but I'll buy them all anyway (3 sets of each cover too), which is all the bean counters care about anyway.

I aim to misbehave!

I know I'm opening myself up for some flaming...I'm as pissed at FOX's bungling of Firefly as much (or more than) as the next guy. One thing though that I think FOX may have gotten right is requiring Mal to be more likeable.

The real pilot "Serenity" shows Mal as being fairly unlikeable, but I only saw that show at the end of the first TV run, AFTER I'd already met and gotten to like Mal. It looks like Joss, free of FOX's constraints in these comics has turned Mal a bit darker once more. So far Mal has been a real jerk to just about everyone on the crew that interacts with him.

I'll admit that he's having a particularly rough time, what with Inara leaving and them not having any money...but sheesh, the troubles he's going through now can't be any worse than having Zoe unconsious, fighting for her life, his ship broken and running out of oxygen and Wash refusing to follow orders. During that episode, Mal merely shoves Wash up against the bulkhead and yells some sense into him..this time around, Wash merely tries to talk to him and he threatens to essentially break Wash's arm.

I don't like this Mal. I like the other Mal. I want the other Mal back. :(

Cheers,

Ken

Got my copies of the first one yesterday (wheee!) and have been informed that the second one is on the way.

That's the problem with living in Australia, everything takes so damned long to ship. But I've ordered all three copies of each three issues. I can't wait.

I thought River's voice was a bit off in the first one, I reserve judgement for the second and third when they come. I didn't like how they drew Inara (poor Morena, I'd be very upset).

Kaylee was cute, as always, but my fav rendition of her is the little picture in the back, with her hair all flying.

My favourite part of #1?

When the job goes sour and there's a picture of Mal, Zoe and Jayne in silhouette, and all's you get is a little voice bubble of Jayne saying "Gorramit".

It's too adorable.
