There's one song, a little Filk, that always reminds me of River in OiS... When she's pretending to be Serenity.
Phoenix by Julia Ecklar.
"My wings are made of Tungsten, my flesh of glass and steel. I am the joy of terror for the power that I wield. Once upon a lifetime, I died a pioneer. Now I sing within this space-ship's heart, does anybody hear."
Twelve spheres of unendurable brightness spalled the velvety blackness of space.
The silence on Lester Tourville's flag bridge was absolute
And then the spell was broken as Shannon Foraker looked up from her console from where she had just sent a seemingly innocent command to the main computers of State Security's finest Superdreadnoughts.
"Oops." She said.

Ooh, happy topic.
* For Wash and Zoe (or any other FF couple/pairing, I guess), there's Bruce Cockburn's (or the kickass cover by the Barenaked Ladies) "Lovers in Dangerous Time."
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This vibrant skin, this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
But nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
* For Wash and his insecurities, there's Student Rick's "Acoustic Song."
I'm watching you asleep
wondering if I'm in your dreams
did I catch you when you fell?
did I kiss your tears away?
'cause I just wanna be
the man she sees in me
he seems so far away
he's calling out my name
but can I ever be
the man that's in her dreams?
I pray to be one day...
* And for Mal and Inara and their little games, even though it's more of a song for after they get together and then lose each other (say, in season two or three), there's the Dire Strait's "Romeo and Juliet."
Come up on different streets and they both were streets of shame
Both dirty, both mean, yes, and the dream was just the same
I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?
You can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say, oh romeo, yeah you know I used to have a scene with him

Oh I hadn't thought of Phoenix in years. You are right, it's a great River song. But I think your quote is misspelled. "I am the joy of Terra ..." since this was written after the Challenger was lost.

Little 50's, some 60's, lots of 70's and 80's and very little 90's.
Hum, did that help?
What do you listen to anyway?

That's... that's a whole hell of a lot of listenin' to find a song that fits firefly. But what the hell.
I listen to Metal, rock, Alternitive- not pop alt though. Classical, opera, some country, insperational. Just about anything that the beat catches me. Really no faves only one hate, rap.

Yo, yo, yo, yo.
(White girl trying to sound like a black rapper= stupid.)
You don't like rap? I think Some of it's pretty good. No vanilla ice, but anything that has that magic beat you were talking about.
