I plan to eventually but I heard it's rubbish. I also plan on reading the books sometime but I already have several books on the go with more to arrive soon.

May I suggest that you don't read the full series? The movie and first book were written at the same time (but had different things in them). The second book was written based on the movie. If you read the book but didn't see the movie you were suddenly very confused. The series gets pretty odd the more you read. Of course, you might like them. I could just be odd. eh. Enjoy learning all about HAL.

I'm in total accord there. The Emperor is much cooler than Vader (especially the pre-Vader whiny Anakin)! I don't know why but I just love Palpatine. Perhaps it's the cackling and the spinny chair?
However, I do concede that pureness of evil doesn't always make the best villain. Sometimes more complex motivations are better. A good villain really ought to think that they are the hero. That's why another of my favorites is Magneto from the X-Men. He has his own agenda and motivations.

I haven't seen the villain from the movie Unbreakable mentioned yet. I won't give the name, since it would spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, but that one was fantastic.
As for Jaime Lannister, I have trouble even thinking of him as a villain. He seems like an ordinary guy on one of the wrong sides of a war. There is the fact that he threw a seven-year-old out a window, but his reasons are too easy to understand to really view him as a malevolent character.
Ah, well, I look forward to November 8. Can't wait to see what happens next. I suspect Jaime Lannister and Sandor Clegane will do a fair bit of good before all's said and done.

Word, Greg. I've been waiting for Feast For Crows for 2 years or so... I really enjoyed how they made Kingslayer and the Hound people you could sympathize with. I'd say, if anyone is a real VILLAIN, it'd be Cersei. What. A. Bitch.
