Yes, this is reposted from my blog, but I think I might get a better response from the general populous! I really would love to make this into a poster!
Most of you realise that I teach high school English. In watching Firefly over and over and over again, I've realised that you can learn a whole heck of a lot about teaching from watching Mal. Now I have it listed out here as a cursory list in no real order. I want input from you guys about other things you've noticed and better ways to phrase stuff on the list.
The Malcolm Reynolds Teaching Method:
1. I am the captain and, no, you can't run this ship.
2. You all got on this boat for different reasons.
3. Hold the crew to high standards.
4. Rule hard, but rule fair.
5. Got something to say, say it to my face.
6. Honesty - Always shoot straight.
7. Exploit the blurred lines.
8. Everyone on the boat is part of the crew. -teamwork
9. If you goof it up, admit it. Preferrably before we find out on our own.
10. The way to win is with a team you can trust.
11. Piss me off too much, I got no problem shoving you out the airlock.
12. "Why are you still arguing what's been decided?"
13. "Your mouth is talking. You might want to see to that."
That's all I got so far...thoughts? Additions? Please?!

Those are great! I wouldn't know how to fix them or anything, they look fine to me.

Hope for the best, while still preparing for the worst.

Here's one you forgot:
Never, ever, under any circumstances do you let Jayne try to take over. Ever.

Suggestion for additions:
"I get the job done!"
"I ain't looking for a fight...always seem to find one, though."

"Appears they've cancelled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"

We don't have to like each other to work together and help each other.

Great ones! Here's a variation on a favorite:
Do the work. Pass the class. Keep flyin'.
I am so going to make this into a poster for my classroom!
