I will join you in toasting him this evening as well. He was a great and loved character! I remember thinking " Who will our heros be now." Its indeed a sad day.

May he rest in peace. The world has lost a war hero.

Here is some of his courageous exploits during World War II:

At the outbreak of World War II, aged 19, he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery, and was eventually commissioned as a lieutenant. His first combat assignment was the invasion of Normandy at Juno Beach on D-Day. Shooting two snipers along the way, Doohan's unit made its way to higher ground and took defensive positions. That night, crossing between command posts at 11:30, he took six hits from a German machine gun: four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his middle right finger. The chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case; the shot finger was amputated, and on screen he would generally conceal this. Despite his wounds, Doohan remained in the military, trained as a pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force, and flew an artillery observation plane, though he was once labeled the "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Forces".

Canada has lost one of its greatest generation.

I had the honor to meet and talk with Mr. Doohan and De Forest Kelly years ago at a Sci-Fi convention in St. Louis. They were both extremely friendly and easy to talk to. De was such a sweet soul, with a friendly smile that reached his eyes. A real Southern gentleman! Jimmy was just as nice, with that great grin of his, a quick wit, and he always had a story to tell.

They will both be missed. I know De was there to greet James when he arrived today!

Rest in peace Mr. Doohan.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Is it okay if I say, "He's dead, Jim" like Bones always did? It's meant in the most honorary way. He lived long and he prospered, though, so that's good. He and DeForrest will be missed by many.

Yeah, I spoke with him at length after a Star Trek convention. He was kind of jolly. Nothing like his matter-of-fact character in Star Trek, and doesn’t have even a hint of a Scottish accent. It sucks that he died. He was getting on up there though. I remember thinking, when I talked to him, how much older he looked then I expected.

Ladies and Gents, Mr Doohan was Canadian. The Scottish accent was strictly for the TV.
A Molson may be a more fitting drink for him. Although I suppose it wouldn't hurt to drop a shot of Dewars in it. With a name like Doohan I can't help but think a tartan or two is in his family tree.
