OK everyone...that's it! No mas!!

I'm glad the interest was sufficient to make sure I didn't lose money in all of this.

Overall I think I made about $20 It wasn't my intention to make money, but with varying shipping cost, etc., it just sort of worked out that way.

There *may* be someone interested in taking over for me. If that does happen that person will be posting here to let everyone know.

Also, as far as a disc for the soon to be aired missing eps...I havent made any decisions yet. I'm leaning towards not making one since news of the official DVD set seems to be promising!

Ok, a couple of things to share/note.

1) I am located in the UK, have the SciFi channel, and will shortly be purchasing an EyeTV to rip tv shows. I would be happy to sort Trs or any other potential US person who feels like distributing copies to those stateside with the new episodes in high quality format when they arrive on UK tv (I'll be writing a dissertation, or I'd offer to do it myself).
Whatever happens I will make the eps available on kazaa/winmx.

2) The official dvds will probably be out first, so there might not be any point in doing the above ;)

3) Does anyone know who this is: http://www.sueandstuswedding.com/ebay/firefly.htm
Looks like they want to see them on Ebay, I wonder how much they are charging (i've got a profit-making vibe coming off the page)

4) I loooove TRS's DVD, and unflagging devotion to the cause. Quick question - how many sets overall did you ship, if you don't mind me asking? I would just like to get an indication of how much interest there was.

Tabitha - I did talk to that guy. At first he seems nice, friendly, fan-to-fan collector. I inquired about Shindig (the only episode I don't have on SVCD), and he sent me a form letter about the episodes, with an additional line that said he had a Paypal account (ha! first tip off). I wrote back and said no thanks, I just need Shindig. He then wrote me and said he could do that for me for five pounds plus shipping, which would probably double that. Profit-making? I'm thinking so.... but I don't know how much things cost in the UK either.

I would be willing to make SVCDs for people (no DVD burner, unfortunately), until such time as they come out on DVD, when I will cut it off. I just need Shindig to be able to start, mine's got a tiny glitch that drives me batty!

Just thought of something - TRS80, how did people pay you for shipping / materials? Do you have Paypal? Maybe it's not as unusual as I'd thought...

Hi;

TRS used PayPal as well. Convenient format. As for the glitch in "Shindig," I do believe it was an error in the source download, since I have two sets (got one set as a loaner), and both have the hiccough in exactly the same place (Murphy saying to Bannon that she has a lovely dress, and that it must've taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get her into it). So it goes.

I do hope that the official DVD hits the market soon enough to obviate the need for a second set of disks with the new eps on them, but these things take time, and the show is running in the UK next month, so that kind, generous person who offered to put the eps up on WinMX may be our benefactor for the time being.

On the subject of the official disks, I had posted on another thread the intention of purchasing sets not only for myself and for friends, but also to get a set and contribute it to a local library's AV section. What do folks think of that idea?

Keep flyin'!

Ah, well that's good to know. I won't be so automatically mistrustful of those with Paypal anymore. In any case, I still would've had to pay about $25 Canadian for one ep, and he avoided a direct question about the quality. So.

I really like the library idea - however, I know most of the media our local library carries is educational or has historical or local significance. I suppose Jewel IS from Vancouver...

I sure hope the DVDs come out soon, it would be stupid for 20thCentFox to wait until after UKSciFi shows the unaired eps! (At least, that's what I keep telling myself - I know I'll buy the DVDs anyways!)

Woah, the set put together on that site you mention looks impressive. If anyone decides to pickup a set, I'd be interested to hear what they're asking for them.

Please contact me directly (trs80@cornerpub.com) for the info you're looking for. I'd rather not post it in the open for all to see

People paid via paypal, money order, or check. Money order was the most popular though.

I have a good rating with paypal, since I've done some selling/buying on ebay. So, most people weren't all that concerned that I was going to rip them off.

Same answer to you about figures...contact me directly please: tr80@cornerpub.com

You are correct. The glitch was present in the original SVCD source files.

I took quite a bit of time to experiment with settings, etc., to make as good a set as possible. If you watch the original file and compare it to the dvd, I doubt you'll notice any difference at all.

Dude, you're preaching to the choir here; one small glitch in three lovingly crafted disks...well, I'd call that a win!

I only hope that A) some worthy successor steps up to continue your work (till we get the official disks!!!); and B) they're as scrupulous and honorable-like as you've abundantly shown yourself to be (don't make faces).

Keep flyin'!

Hey TRS

I'd be interested to take the project from you - I dunno how much you were charging for your sets so I don't know if it will be possible or not though. I created that set at stuandsueswedding.com - spent two weeks working on it for myself and ended up sending a couple of sets down to a friend of mine, who's obviously decided to sell them on... fair enough I suppose, there's nothing I can do to stop that :)

The cost of the materials for my set is quite high though as you have 4 Verbatim DVD-R discs, 4 full colour glossy labels, full colour glossy cover, quad DVD case plus it's quite heavy for shipping because of the case. At the end of the day though, it depends what you're looking for!! When I made the sets I didn't expect them to ever be released on DVD and I hate having VCDs lying around - it spoils the whole DVD collection, so I set about making the set for myself.

I'm a DVD freak, a collector, a sci-fi nut and someone who can't help tinkering around with things, which is why I ended up playing with DVD authoring 6 months ago. I can't get enough of it - the feeling of sliding in the disc tray and watching your menu screen come up EXACTLY how you imagined it is incredible!!!

Anyway, I'm rabbling on now!! The offer is there if you want, but ONLY until they come out officially because I'll be first in line to buy them when they do. Can't guarantee that I'll prefer the official ones though!! Heh heh

Thanks

M
