Is Joss serious? Is there still hope for our show? I hope the answer is yes, but i have to wonder...since i have never actually met Joss, is it possible that he is a sadist and deriving pleasure from this? I hope no, but with all the actors signing onto other shows... my faith is waivering...please dont crucify me for this my fellow browncoats, i just want some more information.

It's cliche, but in a cute way and I'm too burnt-out to care anyway: Never give up! Never surrender!

Take what hope you have and nurture it. Even if you end up on the losing side, it's still might not be the wrong one.

Or something. Here I'm trying to be eloquent and inspiring and I just come off dumb.

as do we all. won't be no crucifixions on this post.

keep a sharp eye on the TV news either here or on other sites. there's always hope and from what we've heard on JW's feelings about this show, i think he's going to fight the good fight. whether he and we are on the losing side or not still remains to be seen.

i keep preaching this, and i'm just gonna keep on preaching--the television business is VERY fickle when it comes to series, as we are all painfully aware. just cuz actors are signing on with other series now doesn't guarantee it will be the new Law & Order, or Dr. Who--a year from now, who knows?

crack hardy, browncoat. there's a long dry road ahead.

Probably, but not to the extent that we as fans would like. As far as I know, Firefly will never return as a series on television.

The way I'm interpreting what he said is that Firefly will return, but return as one or all of the following:

1. SCI-FI UK's rebroadcast of the original episodes as well as the 3 unaired.

2. As DVD sets. This is becoming more and more likely as recent news would attest.

3. As a comic book series. Joss might be willing. I'm sure Darkhorse is once "Fray" is over and done with in a couple of months (note: April 23, 2003 for #7 and May 21, 2003 for #8. TPB in November 2003).

4. A Firefly movie. I'm guessing unlikely at this point or in the forseeable future.

So, yeah, no doubt that Firefly will definately fly again.

I think Joss & Co. are using the original 15 episodes of Firefly as a calling card for some future Firefly project. And what a fantastic calling card the original season makes, no? To add to it:

DVDs will soon be changing hands.
Word of mouth will grow.
Sci Fi UK will soon be opening up the European continent.
Word of mouth will grow some more.
If a comic comes about... more potential fans reached, more publicity.

I think the best is yet to come for us Browncoats.

That is barring an outbreak of WWIII (which, sadly, is more likely now than it has been in decades) or global economic collapse (ditto).

But hey, stay shiny anyway!!

I posted a response elsewhere, saying that the original Star Trek took years before the first movie came out. I believe that we will not be waiting as long!
Patience y'all. It's getting better, little by little.

Talk peace, but, carry a BIG stick.

I still think we could see a TV movie-of-the-week, or a series of MOWs, as that would be possible to shoot on Nathan's hiatus from his new series. I have a lot of hope in this regard... It makes sense, especially if the show does well overseas and on DVD.

As for the show returning, well, it has happened before. Forever Knight came back from the dead twice, as did Due South. Alien Nation came back on FOX in a series of MOWs as well. The financial situation now is of coure quite different from 5 or 10 years ago. However, it has happened before. I refuse to give up all hope.

This is totally unrelated, but LJC I like that quote on the end of your post...

What's that from?

Me :) I got hit with it while re-reading _Good Omens_ about 10 years ago. Just the mental image of Crowley's Bentley near the end...

Except that Firefly isn't just Nathan Fillion. It'll be difficult to get the entire group together to do a movie-of-the-week. And with the rest of the cast being as talented and up-and-coming as they are, I'm sure their schedules will be even more hectic in the years to come.
