It tend to agree - flash is great, but it doesn't take much extra effort to make a decent bog standard html version alongside it - for all those people who can't view flash, or can't be bothered for it to load.

I'm fond of putting notes on dollar bills, and of leaving printed notes around (on the car next to me in parking lots, around town in places of business, whatever) with the movie logo and the "Can't Stop the Signal" tag w/the www.serenitymovie.com site.

I'ma also planning to put a classified ad in my local paper under the "Special Notices" w/the same as above -- tag & website. Reasonable price, may help.

It certainly can't hurt!

My favourite marketing ploy is simple and requires little effort. Buy a box set and donate to your public library.

It's amazing how many people check out dvd's from the library. Most things barely make it to the shelf before heading back out. People take risks that they wouldn't take if they had to shell out bucks, so you wind up with new browncoats without having to track them down personally. Just make sure it makes it to the shelf; I've had things disappear on the way.

No offense, Lynnec, but whenever I come across one of those paper bits on my car, I throw them in the passenger seat to be thrown away later. I *do* scan them to see if there is anything worthwhile, but , mainly I think they come from get-rich-schemes or religious cults and ignore them. Keywords to alert you of a crap ad: NOW, LOSE, WEIGHT, CASH, JOB, IMMEDIATELY, NO DOWN PAYMENT, etc.

It is for me since I have flash disabled. So such sites are just a blank page since they rarely bother to make a proper HTML. And if occasionally enable flash its sually tiny letters impossible for me to read (and the people disable the zoom feature of flash) - if they had followed the original ideas of HTML one could scale the fonts - but they never do. Case in point. When I look at it with flash disabled, i just get one page - not with "real" text, but with pictures of text (meaning you can't scale the letters to a more readable size). It simply says when the movie opens, and some graphics - and a link that says "You must use flash".

And then when I do enable it, its exacly what I expect. Small hard to read letters and you can't scale it. A site that I would call crap - so yeah, I expect to win the bet on the sernity site. Form was always more important than function in Hollywood.

No, I'm with you on the hatred of Flash. Constantly irritating. I miss the good old days of HTML. Especially since half the sites nowadays don't even work with my browser and I have to load the virus and spyware laden hell that is... Internet Explorer

No offense taken. I usually look at things like than and then chuck them on the seat for disposal. But we both at least GLANCE at it first. And the message is meant to pique the curiosity. Will everyone race home and look up the website? Of course not. But some may...I'm playing the odds. If I leave 3-4 of those around in my travels every day for the next 80+ days, that's upwards of 300 people into whose hands I've put the opportunity to follow through at the website, read the summary/premise, see the trailer and think it looks cool.

Wars like this are won one at a time!
